Our day care only gave DS the pack when he was napping. I preferred that anyway. I wouldn't be upset about them letting her have the pack in her crib for one day. But it does sound like they need to start a consistent nap routine with those babies! That's crazy!

I would have a problem with this. Cribs should be reserved for sleeping. Sharing pacifiers really grosses me out-started a thread on it, but I don't like the way they are handling it.

How about they just clip the paci's onto each kid?! Or watch them so they don't take others?!

I agree about the sleeping on the floor thing too....?! They should know her schedule and put her down before the point of passing out on the floor?!

@Worrywart: it sounds like she just inadvertently fell asleep on the floor though? I know it sounds weird but I've seen babies do this, even outside (eta and even not so long after a nap.. and yes I was shocked the first time I saw a baby do that bc at home my kids would never!!)

I wouldn't honestly be upset, but maybe it's because I had the same rule around that age about pacis... my dd knew by age one to go throw it in the crib. She slept with it til about 2.5. 10 months is a little early but it doesn't seem totally heartless to me or anything like that. Maybe if she was needing it so much I would have thought the down time was ok for today.

If it were every day I would think a new solution needed to be reached, but if the rest of the class is doing better this way, and it was just one day where she wasn't herself anyway, I'd chalk it up to that and not say anything for now.

I see I'm in the minority though!

I would be upset with multiple issues here! They should be putting her to sleep in her crib, and not on the floor.

Also, you are the parent and it's up to you if you want your child to have a paci or not. It's not their decision. Get a paci clip and have it hooked to your babe at all times.

Sounds like a chat with the director may need to happen. Best of luck!

The falling asleep on the floor would have me more concerned than the restricted use of a pacifier. My oldest loved his binky, but my youngest never used one...so I get both sides.

The whole falling asleep on the floor? No. If you're in an infant room, they usually abide by the baby's schedule, and the fact that they're letting her fall asleep on the floor and putting her in her crib? That doesn't sit well with me.

@ShootingStar: I'm sorry Daycare worry posts always make my heart hurt because we all know how hard it is to leave them daily anyway!

I would ask about a paci clip
I also would ask why they fall asleep on the floor?!
Is it that they just let them go go go until they pass out?! That can lead to cranky babies they are tired!!!
I have a 8 month old and he loves his crib, he will cry and fuss if tired but the minute he hits that crib he is out....

My thought is do they have enough help to have the babies on a nap routine or have the time to help a little go to sleep?! Put in crib, sushhh etc?!

I think you can bring up the sleep situation again and connect it to the paci
Maybe ask....Can she be out in her crib with paci before her nap to get her used to falling asleep in that space?

Hugs Mama!

I'd be pissed. Stealing pacis happens, it seems weird that they're restricting use...I actually think this would be more difficult than runni,g interference bc I bet lots of kiddos were upset.

Bring a clip as pp said and I would personally express some concern about the restrictions, ask about exceptions.

Just put it on a clip on her clothes so no one can take it. Germ problem solved. It's ridiculous that they put her in the crib to use it. We would not have done that in the Infant room at any daycare I have worked at.

ETA: we would try and limit the kids using them, but not due to germs, more due to wanting them not to rely on it for comfort and potentially make other kids want to use theirs, but if the kid was having a bad day or inconsolable then they would definitely be allowed to use it.

@erinbaderin: @SweetCaroline: @petitenoisette: Yeah, I was really unhappy about it when I heard. The teacher told me I could take home her sleep sack because they didn't use it, because she would fall asleep on the floor and they'd put her in the crib. I was so surprised I was speechless and just kind of nodded. Then I felt like I missed my opportunity to say something.

Generally she takes two naps a day (as she should be) so I haven't pushed it. Granted, the first nap is way later than I'd do at home. But she's not coming home a mess every day from not napping like DS was at that age. So I let it go.

I have a bigger problem with them letting her fall asleep on the floor instead of reading her cues and putting her down for a nap. I kind of get her being in the crib with the paci - it's not fair to the other kids if they don't get theirs but she does.

Why can't they put paci clips on the babies so they at least have to work a little harder to steal them? Running interference is the providers job.

Also, you didn't ask, but I'd be pissed if they let my kid fall asleep on the floor regularly rather than putting her in the crib awake. Like...that almost upsets me more than the paci in crib only issue.

I would be really annoyed with this. It's so dumb, I mean babies are going to exchange germs even if they aren't stealing pacis. Also the fact that they let your LO fall asleep on the floor, I would not be cool with that either.

That being said idk what I'd do about it, I am always such a wuss about bringing up any issues I've ever had with my kid's daycare.

It seems really weird to me to restrict pacifier use to when the baby is in the crib. I would not be okay with this at all. It's fine for babies to use pacifiers (even a lot), and babies deserve to spend the majority of the day with the freedom to move around and explore. Particularly at 10 months, at which point I would imagine your baby is moving around quite a bit.

I think if she's not feeling well and being fussy, she didn't want to be handled or comforted and being in the crib with the paci probably made her feel better.

I guess if she was happier in the crib with the paci that's ok, plus if she felt crummy maybe she appreciated being able to rest/be away from the other babies a bit. I would just make sure it's not an ongoing thing - hopefully she's better soon!

It also might be worth noting that she was up super early this morning and was ready for a nap when she got there. But I'm sure they didn't try to put her down because they just wait for her to fall asleep on the floor and then they stick her in the crib. It's a practice I don't love, but I haven't taken issue with.

But anyways, I'm sure on top of everything else she was tired and crabby.

My 10 month old has become a bit of a paci addict over the last week or two. First we were on vacation then she got sick with an ear infection and virus and was home with one of us and super fussy from not feeling well, so we've been pretty free with the paci.

Daycare told us a few weeks ago they were restricting paci use because the babies kept stealing them from each other. OK, sure.

Today DH picked her up from daycare and they said she was super fussy all day and only happy when they gave her the paci so they kept putting her in the crib since that's the only place she can have it.

On one hand I get it - less germ sharing the better. But on the other hand I'm upset that it seems like she spent an inordinate amount of time in the crib today because the teachers couldn't run interference. I also feel really bad because she's still not totally herself and I had to send her to daycare instead of having her at home where I could spoil her all day.
