Huh. I hadn't even thought about this. I don't think they have a policy, when we toured we wore our shoes everywhere, the director wore her shoes, etc. Oh well.

Ours has infant 1& 2. When they start crawling they get moved to 2. I'm hoping in 2 there's a no shoe policy because in 1 there isn't.

@keiki_mama: Yes ours is like that too, you have to go through the toddler room to get to the infant room

@lydg: I also insist on taking shoes off when we get home, shoes track in so much dirt!

This is interesting to me. I am crazy about shoes in the house and DH thinks I'm truly insane. DS starts daycare Monday but i know there it not a shoe policy at all, which freaks me out!! He is 7 weeks old on Saturday and is in a room with 4 other babies up to 4-5 months. How would one even argue that it's unsanitary w/o sounding neurotic?

To get to the baby room, you have to enter through the 1-2 yr old room--there is a no shoe policy for both.

Only 1 of the three daycares we went to tour had a shoe policy. I think we're going with a homecare though, so she doesn't wear shoes around the house.

@Mrsbells: haha I just read my post and am thought...that really doesn't make sense!!

Current daycare: wears shoes everywhere
New daycare: no shoes allowed in the baby room. You either cover them with booties or you take them off. Most people take them off. The seat for shoes on/off is right next to the infant room so you would only walk maybe a step with booties or bare feet before you go into the room.

Our old daycare required hospital booties in the infant room. Socks were not acceptable.

Our current daycare allows shoes in the infant room. At morning drop off I tend to stay near the door, where they normally eat, which I know gets completely cleaned after each meal/snack.

The kids are also required to wear shoes (closed toe) as they are all walking.

The floor is a hard washable surface. I tend to avoid walking on the play mats. Given that all the kids are walking and wearing shoes as well (they also go outside on nice days), I don't see a problem with it.

When I questioned it because our prior daycare made such a big deal of the sanitation issues. Our current director indicated the safety of the parents and teachers is more important. She found all forms of hospital booties to be slippery and therefore unsafe.

Ours is no shoes in the baby rooms only. You take your shoes off and leave them outside of the room in the hallway.

Whats the shoe policy at your LO's daycare? I visited a couple more daycares and one of them doesnt have any policy at all, you can wear your shoes in all the rooms! Even the baby room. I as quite surprised and felt odd wearing my shoes in there .And its quite an expensive place about $1300

At our current place its a really blurry policy, they say all shoes must be taken off before getting on the carpet at the entrance of the room, but there is a big mat at the entrance and then short tiled walkway before the carpet and we all walk on that mat & tiled area with our shoes and then when their staff come to open the door for us they walk with their shoe covers/ socks over the tiled area that we walked on with our shoes and so they are basically transferring dirt onto the carpet anyway.

Also I mentioned that they have a lot of new people starting and one of them just walked right on the carpet with her shoes, I guess because she forgot? She even went into the infant section with her shoes on. This really irritates me.
