Thanks! we've done gifts at holidays, but I didn't know if this was too weird. I'll pick up a gift card to put in a card for her on Friday...I have a list of her favorite stores.

When I quit my daycare job of 2 years, one of the moms got me a bouquet of red roses and stopped by early on my last day to give them to me in person and thank me. We both ended up crying. It was really sweet. If you really liked your teacher, I'd definitely give a token of your appreciation!

We've done a gift card $ and a thank you note. This was for a teacher who went to pursue a position in a public district (she was in a program for elementary teaching while teaching the infant daycare class). She taught our firstborn and our second for a few months. I told her in the note that we'd miss her and wish her well, etc, and that we'd be happy to write her recommendations if needed in the future. We still keep in touch through facebook and she's offered to babysit for us (though we haven't needed her to).

I think it's a nice gesture for a teacher you're particularly close to, but not required :)

If you want to! If I really liked the teacher and had a friendship with her than why not send her off with a coffee gift card or something ! It's nice. ;) and she'll feel appreciated And it doesn't need to be big, a $5 card to pay for a coffee would be sweet !!

DD's main daycare teacher is retiring and the parents have all pitched in a little money. She's my neighbor and I'm thinking about buying her something more, but I'm stopping myself because it's not really a gift-giving culture where we live. I'm opting for sending her a personalized Christmas card (by LO) and nice calendar. But if we didn't know where she lived, I'd just give her something on her last day.

We just had a similar situation in my son's class. I got a $20 Dunkin Donuts gift card and put it in a card. It's less than I would have spent when he "graduated" the room but I figure it's still something to say thanks.

I think it's okay to gift on the departure, but not necessary. I have done it for some teachers that we particularly enjoyed.

The main teacher in our daycare room is leaving on Friday - we just found out an hour ago. :crying: Do we get her a thank you/going away gift? Is that weird? What is appropriate for something like this? I planned to do gifts when we graduated from the room, and didn't anticipate his teacher leaving before he did.

I'm still sort of in shock. We really love her, and this leaves us with 3 part-time teachers in the room: 1 who is very experienced, and 2 summer interns. Apparently they have hired her full-time replacement and are just waiting on the background check to clear - but we don't yet have any more information since it isn't final. *sigh* I know it will be totally fine, I'm just quietly freaking out a little.
