Thanks everyone... I feel a bit better now, but I'll be glad when her cold sore is gone!!
@looch: I have never actually seen teachers kissing the kids I think she just said that to be "funny"

It would bother me more that the teachers are kissing the children, cold sore or no cold sore, to me that's not acceptable...if they are actually kissing the kids, of course.

My mom gets cold sores whenever she's stressed. She's gotten them her whole life and I have never once gotten one. :)

I have gotten cold sores almost my entire life. I can assure you as a chronic sufferer I am so careful not to spread them to others. I won't even touch the cold sore my self (I use Q tips to apply medication) and wash my hands so much. No kisses, no sharing utensils or drinks- which I doubt your teacher would do anyways. Most people that get them are super careful because they know how much they suck.

I was reading somewhere recently that more than 90% of Americans get them. As long as she is promising to not kiss the kids and washes her hands anytime she touches her face, I'd be fine with it.

As long as the teacher is cognizant of the possible contagion through contact and will be avoiding that contact as much as possible, no it wouldn't bother me. It isn't something that I would be required to stay home for so I can't expect someone else to do the same.

Would it bother you if your LO's daycare teacher had cold sores? Yesterday I noticed that one of LO's teachers has huge cold sores all over her top lip and the sides of her mouth. Naturally I didnt say anything but I heard another parent asking her about it and she said its really painful but she kept saying "I promise not to kiss the kids" which made me a bit worried. I have never had a cold sore but I the other parent said they are very contagious
