My LO just started daycare this week and it's been a so-so adjustment so far. He's only 9 months though.

I was chatting with the center director about it though, and she said that although there is definitely a lot of variation by child, her experience is that it tends to be easier under 1 year to about 18 months or so, then pretty difficult again until about 3 or 4.

We transitioned at 18 months and the first two weeks were horrible. He sobbed, all day. But now he loves it, so... He got over it. It's so hard though!

We transitioned our DD right at age 2 this fall. She did really well, but she's also pretty easy-going. The daycare was also much better than where we were before so I think that helped.
I think it's hard to know- it's part personality, part age, and then a little of everything else..
Good luck!!! I hope it gets better soon!

We're in the first week of a daycare/preschool transition at almost 2.5 years old. Yesterday was tough because the morning teacher didn't meet him beforehand. LO had some serious separation anxiety too. He also had a bad nap adjusting the environment. Today was better with excitement about attending preschool and getting there on time. We'll see how the week goes. It's definitely hit or miss. One of the teachers said that he just went with the program and seemed happy about it, so that's a small win I guess.

We changed schools this summer when DS was 3.5 and he was totally fine. I think it's hit or miss though

Have you changed your lo's child care centers? Was it hard or was the transition pretty smooth? How old were they?

We moved our lo to a new daycare this month. She's 2.5. It has been absolute Hell. In the morning when she wakes up, she cries "I don't want to go bye bye." In the car, she says the same thing. We get there and walk into the room and she suctions herself to my leg. Her teacher is wonderful. She holds her when I leave as my daughter cries "mommy, mommy, i want my mommy." :(

I know she is getting used to it, the notes we are getting home are great and the teacher has gone out of her way to email us photos to show she really is playing while she's there, she doesn't just cry all day. It's still really hard.

I'm curious if we had done this later (or sooner) if it would have been easier?
