@mamabolt: thanks for the info. We are actually only looking for childcare from January-June because in the fall 2014 the baby will be enrolled in a school run daycare.

Some daycare do offer a 10 month plan for teachers. You may also run into the same issue with a nanny or nanny share - the nanny might not want to take a job if she was going to not get paid for 2 months in the summer.

Pros of nanny - one on one attention, come to your house so baby is in a familiar setting and you don't have to worry about getting out the door with baby's stuff, may do some light housekeeping for you as well, less exposure to germs
Cons of nanny - more expensive, if nanny is sick you are without child care, less socialization for baby.

Pros of nanny-share - have some socialization, may still be at own house, cheaper than nanny.
Cons of nanny-share - have to find a compatible person who has similar ideas on parenting, may have to buy some stuff like double stroller, etc, may be at other home, if nanny is sick you are without child care.

Pros of daycare - cheaper, generally more structured days, lots of socialization, reliable even if normal care provider is sick.
Cons of daycare - the sickness! It's pretty much constant the first winter. Have to take baby to them. Less one-on-one attention for LO.

I'm due in July and planning to return to work in January. I work in a school, so my work day ends around 3. It kills me to have to pay for weeks at a day-care that we will not use because I am school vacation. I guess I am looking for the pro's and con's of childcare options. I don't know where to begin with researching these options. Any ideas?
