@crunchymama: could one of the moms who shares your views watch your child?

@wheres_c: @Honeybee: @mrsjazz: I know quite a number of families within 30 minutes who share my views on vaccinations however they ALL are SAHM's who homeschool their children. Not a one of them works outside the home.

@mrbee: @Honeybee: @Lozza: @lawbee11: Regarding religious reasons: it is not a common belief in my religion, it's religious for me but not for those who believe the same as I. I do know some families who are of the same faith and practice the same beliefs on vaccines too, but it's not something my faith outright prohibits.

@wheres_c: I'm going to consider a nanny share. I'm honestly not quite sure how to go about finding one though.

I would check with some local daycares and make sure. I went to my first mommy and me class today, and while not the same...it was held at a daycare.
There were no questions about vaccinations, which is kind of surprising.
I know when I checked into daycares (decided to SAHM/WAHM) not all of them mentioned children needing to be vaccinated. I would ask them.

Honestly though, I respect your decision not to vaccinate (we are delaying & omitting some) HOWEVER, day care may not the best option for you if your child isn't vaccinated....especially early on. I would be worried that your child might pick something up from the other children. (Not sure how that works - Not a doctor. )

My pediatrician felt comfortable delaying/omitting vax because LO was not in daycare. She said she would have recommended them if he was in daycare.

Are there any attachment parenting/crunchy parenting groups that you could ask for recommendations? How about a nanny-share?

What about advertising in your church for a caregiver? Maybe a SAHM that shares your religious views would be willing to watch your kid(s) for the price you'd pay for daycare?

Eta: or maybe other families in your church can you some recs on daycares that will take unvaccinated children?

I'd also imagine that an in-home care situation would be a lot more likely to be amenable to this- I don't think you'll have much luck with bigger daycare centers. I agree with Mr. Bee that if part of your reasoning is religious, your place of worship seems like a good place to start for suggestions and more info.

All of the daycares in our area require vaccinations. I think that because a majority of people vaccinate (at least where I live), daycares would risk losing a lot of business by allowing non-vaccinated children to attend. Do you know anyone with similar beliefs? I think your best bet would be a nanny share with another family that also doesn't vaccinate.

I am fairly certain that you can seek a religious exemption from the state, as the public health requirements for daycares are a matter of state law. I don't have any experience with that process, so I am not sure how difficult that would be.

I believe requirements differ by state:
http://www2a.cdc.gov/nip/schoolsurv/schImmRqmt.asp

Some states allow exemptions for parents "conscientiously opposed" to vaccination (or to those who have a medical reason). If it's a religious concern, maybe talk to your local church/mosque/synagogue/other to see how their members handle it.

Hopefully you can find a childcare solution for the toddler tears; just a note though that you would need to get a clear exemption before your kids reach school age (unless you home school).

I have no experience with this, but I don't think there's a way to get around that rule. Do you think you could find other parents in your area who aren't/haven't vaccinated their children and ask them what they've done OR possibly do a nanny share or some kind of daycare co-op with them?

I'm a frequent poster but since this is a controversial topic I prefer to stay incognito.

{DISCLAIMER: I am NOT looking for a debate on whether to vaccinate or not and I will not respond if someone tries to start something... that is not the intention of this post. Please respect my stance on this issue. Thank you.}

I might be returning to work shortly, just hammering out the details... and I had a thought: pretty much all daycares require children to be fully vaccinated.

I totally understand that and respect it but due to personal and religious preferences, I do not vaccinate my children at all and certainly do not plan to.

But now I'm at a loss as far as childcare options go. Is there a way to get around that rule? We wouldn't be able to afford a nanny so that option is out.

Anyone else not vax and run into this issue? I haven't actually contacted any daycares about it, but I'm sure it would come up as many require vaccination documents for enrollment.

Thanks in advance!
