I would sign the ones I'm clear on and flag the one's I'm not.

The thing that really jumped out is this "ask you to recognise that it is a disciplinary offence if a staff member is listed on such sites"

That seems like way overstepping some boundaries!

Oh I get the gist all right..... but the way it's written, it's basically meaningless!

@tinyperson: Yes, that's what I want to do!! I want to re-write them all! But I guess that's weird, right?!

@looch: What, 15 multi-page forms' worth of copy/paste errors? *cackle* Nice try! :silly:

@sea_bass: She is driving a brand new soft top though! Hmm, who's the idiot, me or her?!!

I feel your pain. I'm an editor, and going through the 24 forms for our daycare (gah), I just wanted to offer to redo them all in a nice clean, crisp, professional way.

I would just flag anything you're not clear on and when you bring the forms in, clarify those items with them.

Yay for a good first day! My LO has been in two different daycares since early January, and has been a champ adapting to different caregivers. It makes it so much easier when they seem to like where they are. But it's also harder to see them having fun with other people, not just mama. :)

I would ask for a meeting and walk through each page line by line and ask them to clarify it all. Maybe by walking through it through a parent's eye will help them see how confusing it is.

PS I think you are agreeing not to contact them after hours or expect the manager to contact any of the staff on your behalf after hours, and that you're agreeing not to try to friend them on social media and just to try to completely avoid them online probably. So if you're fine with all that (which I'm sure you are), I doubt you are putting yourself in any jeopardy by signing!

Ahhhh, it seems like your little baby was just born last week! Time flies by.

I would ask if you're confused about something so you can make sure you're following the rules. For other mistakes (spelling/grammatical errors), I wouldn't say anything.

I wonder if it is a copy/paste error, in that they tried to reuse some documentation that is meant for their staff?

I think they're saying that they don't want you to talk about them on social networking sites (even if you limit access to your posts). They also don't want you to friend them on social networks, or text/call/email them at night.

I would not say anything. I want the staff at my son's preschool to like me as much as possible. Once she's enrolled and has been there awhile, you could volunteer your services in a very nice and helpful way.

DS is in an in-home Montessori and all the paperwork and policy/procedures were poorly written as well, similar to what you're experiencing. I was all (o_O) when I went through it. I didn't say anything, but understood the gist of what they were trying to convey and signed.

Yours doesn't make sense in parts so I would definitely ask for clarification before signing!

Well. I think education requirements for working in a nursery in the UK are quite low. The person who put this together has a very low grasp of written English.

E had her first settling in session at nursery today! She loved it. Mummy may have had a little cry when she saw her painting with the big kids (1 year olds!).....! *blush*.

I came home with 15 forms to fill in and eight information sheets covering topics such as the absence policy and the menus. I know, right?! A bit much! I had to sign my mobile in and out of the building, too, and let them put it in the safe during my visit because it has a camera in it. I think the nursery manager might be a bit over the top!!!

But.... despite her obvious love of rules, red tape and paperwork, her grasp of the English language leaves a lot to be desired!! The paperwork is so badly written - switching tenses several times in a sentence, switching the pronouns used during a sentence - it is virtually incomprehensible in places!

For example:
"We ask you not to use a mobile phone inside the nursery, giving due regard to the nusery's safeguarding policy and I will also not contact staff members outside of nursery hours or become friends on social networking sites."

Who won't contact the nursery staff? Me? The nursery manager?? Huh??

It then goes on to say:
"This again is required for the safety of all children in our care and to maintain confidentiality at all times. We do ask for your cooperation in this matter and ask you to recognise that it is a disciplinary offence if a staff member is listed on such sites. Privacy settings do not always protect the staff member and it is not an assurance that the nursery will not become aware of the situation.".

Say what???! So is it an offence for them to be on social networking sites? If so, how is my cooperation required??! I have to sign to say I agree!! What am I agreeing to??!

All 15 forms are written like this! It's not just the appalling grammar, either.... One of the forms (a one page form in which I give my permission for them to take DD on day trips, even though they apparently seek permission prior to each trip as well), I have to complete DD's name and address three times (on a one-sided, one page form) and sign twice!

Would you say something? I'm tempted to rewrite it all for them because they clearly don't have anyone there with the skills do they?!!
