I'm inclined to go with it as it has I think the highest quality standards in our area short of the ones with a September only start date - which we may not even get in to for Sept 2018. We even ended up paying for an extra month to save our spot-- our center is only for 6 months and up and lo1 was just 5 months in sept, so we paid the full year but had a delayed start. I think you could potentially get in though because when moving up the ratios change a little so more spots are available. The top daycare in our area does this. It is connected to a MDO / preschool so I think they just try to have consistent rules. We ended up going another route, but my main issue has been that by the time I usually call (August and October babies) the class is already full because there isn't a rolling year. My employer has six affiliated daycares and claims to be family friendly. And yet this is the policy - the daycares sell themselves as a top notch academic experience, which is great, but there's also a place for good quality infant care that's not trying to be pre-school for infants. There's a daycare near where I live that doesn't have this policy that I'm going to tour tomorrow, and I'm really hoping it's not like an 18 month waiting list...</p> <p>That's a good idea to look into a student for the summer. I'm hoping to take 12 weeks - will have to do a little bit of work from home in that period but I'm hoping it will be manageable. It is a daycare and preschool so that's part of the reason. Our daycare actually told us we'd have to start paying as soon as he was technically old enough to be in their school, which was eight weeks, even if he wasn't going yet. There's a major shortage in our area and infant care is particularly hard to come by. Almost all the options say that they only enroll with a one year contract starting September 1 and it's extremely rare for slots to open up at other times - including for the infant class. </p> <p>Is this a normal thing? I'm thinking that maybe it's idiosyncratic to where we are at because universities are the main employer and they seem synced to that schedule. Since I don't have nine months of maternity leave, it's problematic... A couple of people at work I know who've had kids used grandparent care until they could start daycare in Sept, but we don't have family nearby... </p>
