@septca: Thank you, good to know. Maybe I shouldn't worry too much and just send him with enough WCM for the day. I know he likes to drink it.

Each time we dropped a feed, DD took 2-3 days to adjust. But after that she was fine. Dropping daytime feeds was easiest for us, actually, because it was out of sight, out of mind. If I was not around, she had no problems drinking WCM instead of nursing or having a bottle.

@beaker: DH is gone from the house about 11 hours during the day for work. On weekends when I go out in the afternoon he is fine. My mom is coming to stay for a few days, maybe I'll try getting her to distract him.

@MrsMccarthy: I've only been nursing him in one room but I don't include a lovey, I will have to try that.

It was going so good. Hopefully daycare will be a big enough distraction that if he hasn't completely stopped he will be ok for the day.

I'm my case it took about a month and there were some tears but gradually my son adjusted. What helped me was a combination of distraction and soothing. Is there something he loves to do? It also helped to take my on demand nursing fr casual to much more ritualistic. Now when we nurse I grab his lovey and only nurse him in a certain room. It really helps because he tends to expect less when we aren't under those specific conditions. He still asks occasionally dying the day but he is much more willing to accept it than he was initially. I also second Beaker that any help or soothing from your husband will also alter his expectations. Good luck!

Can you disappear for a few hours and see what he does? We night weaned by only having DH go in for night wakeups...

DS is almost 1 (sob) and I go back to work next week. He has never ever taken a bottle but drinks good out of his sippy's. We are keeping the morning and evening nursing for now and have been working on getting him to drink more WCM during the day.

We were down to once in the middle of the day and then as per our pediatrician we started sleep training. He was nursing 2-3 times over night and is doing fine not.

Now he has added back nursing sessions during the day and just freaks out if he doesn't get to nurse. The first time to get him down nursing sessions I just stopped offering and he was fine. If he really wanted something I gave him some milk in his cup and he seemed to be satisfied.

So in the time that he will be in daycare he is nursing 2-3 times.

Any advice on how to get him back down in the next week? I'm at a loss.
