@Foodnerd81: They pickup from the airport (at least according to my husband. I've never done it). Also, parking near Clarendon is a mad house. It's faster to walk than drive, even if your 18 month walks instead of rides in a stroller.

@Foodnerd81: There is only street parking near the Claredon station, not a commuter parking lot. I don't recommend driving to that station.

@Foodnerd81: the uberFamily car seat will probably fit the 4 year old (brand is ImmiGo- it's a fold up car seat just for ubers) and you should be able to bring your own RF seat for the baby. Not sure what the policy is for picking up at the airport though- we usually drive there.

@caterw: @Pollywog: do Ubers pick up from the airport? And could I get one that has a car seat for my almost 4 year old and could fit a RF seat that we bring for the 1 year old? In Boston, über can't pick up at the airport (officially). And I don't think we have the family ones with car seats anyway.

I'm also thinking about renting a car and car seats but mostly leaving t at my aunts house or the metro station near her, but mostly taking the metro into the city. It would cut off a ten plus minute walk to the station as well, which without kids would be nothing. With kids could be a lot.

We live 2 hours away and go up for day/ weekend trips pretty often. I think Uber to and from the airport and then metro the rest of the time. Driving/ parking in DC is an enormous hassle. We usually leave our car in a commuter lot and metro around during the day. There is sooooo much awesome and free stuff to do- Smithsonians, the zoo, street festivals! Even a lot of the government stuff is kid friendly and interesting to a bright kid. Mine is 3.5 and has been on tours to the Mint and the Capitol building (but she is also weird and requests trips like this lol).

@Foodnerd81: Clarendon is awesome. You have to go to the playground on 13th and Barton. It's so much fun. Basic play is an indoor option a 10 minute walk. The Silver Diner is a kid friendly dining option. Nandos and Lost dog are a little further, but are highly recommended.

I baby wear my 13 month old instead of a stroller with no problem. It is way easier than a big stroller. I'd uber from the airport if you are coming in on a weekend or between 10-4 during the week, it'll be cheaper or faster. During rush hour I'd consider metroing

@Pollywog: looks like she is closest to the Clarendon stop, so orange line. We wouldn't be there that long, just a long weekend.

We have a big double stroller (UB vista) or I was thinking we would do our travel stroller and baby carrier and switch off with the almost 4 year old walking or in the stroller, and the almost 1.5 year old would be in carrier or stroller.

@Foodnerd81: where in Arlington? I live here, so neighborhoods help. As far as getting from the airport, if she's on the blue line it is easy. I'm guessing she's on the orange, which requires transferring. Doable, but I'd uber.

Uber has car seats. They are front facing.

Once you are here, totally kid friendly. I only drive to the free indoor play gym (in the farlington community center, open on Saturday's and weekdays). I walk or metro everywhere else. There's a lot of metro repairs which can make for long waits, so be sure to check the WMATA website before you go.

Zoo is a bit of a walk from the metro and at least 40 minutes from Arlington. Bring a stroller, but do it. The mall is about a 10 minute trip.

Depending on your older kiddos height, basic play is a soft play room right off of metro that's a ton of fun. It's $10 per kid. And there's amazing playgrounds. Once I know your area and time of year I'd be happy to go on and on about how much fun you can have :-)

We didn't rent a car, but we were staying right by the zoo for one of my husband's work conferences and a friend picked us up from the airport with a car seat in his car. We had no trouble using public transportation; and it's actually not a horrible walk from the zoo to the national cathedral if you want to see that. I babywore LO to and fro in August and it wasn't too bad.

I definitely wouldn't rent a car. I've been twice and found it super easy to get around using public transportation. It's a great city for kids!

Also it's worth noting we are from a big city and comfortable with public transportation, but doing it in an unfamiliar city with two kids, stroller, and suitcases, is a different ball game.

Oh! Also do D.C. Cabs or ubers have car seats?

I have a wedding coming up in Washington, DC, and am considering bringing our girls along and making a long weekend, mini vacation out of it. My aunt lives nearby and we can stay with her and she will watch the kids during the wedding itself (day time wedding, they are not invited).

If you have traveled to or are familiar with the area, how much would we need a car? Is it possible to get from the airport (Reagan I assume) to Arlington by metro with a stroller and suitcases? I'm feeling like we will need to rent a car and bring car seats which makes the whole thing more annoying. My aunt is a ten minute walk from the Metro.

Once there, is it easy to get around without a car? I really want to take them to the zoo.

I'm just trying to decide if it will be fun or not worth the hassle. I may be able to get my parents to come here and watch ththe girls instead. They will be almost 4 and 18 months.
