They were fantastic for prenatal appointments. I never had a wait and the doctors were so fantastic. I had a completely unmedicated birth and no pressure for an epidural. It was a precipitous labor, so I had lots of medical attention (3 doctors, 2 nurses, 2 techs). That was far from ideal, but I did not have a normal birth. The residents and attending were great. I pushed in tons of positions and had tons of support. . They did put me on a clock to get the baby out before we had to do a forecept delivery, but all was good. I hemorrhaged after delivery and was repaired nicely. Immediate skin to skin until I went into shock. No bottles were given in the NICU, but they did give a pacifier. </p> <p>Recovery was amazing. The NICU was great, the nurses really helped with breastfeeding, and they had private rooms. We will do Georgetown again. </p> <p>@MrsBucky: Holy Cross. It's by far the best option. I'd drive there from Virginia except for that it's too close to my in-laws. If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't mind it, but I'd probably try to go with Virginia Hospital Center. Sibley was nice, no question, but it's a real hike from where we live (Falls Church). I considered doing the GW midwives, but they don't accept anyone with complications. I hear stories about Georgetown not being natural birth friendly but they were incredibly open to our doula, allowed me to labor in the tub as long as I wanted, and were just really supportive of me doing things the way I wanted. As a teaching hospital, there were med students around, but once labor got intense enough that it felt distracting I asked that they leave and they did so happily. We were very happy with the postpartum care as well.</p> <p>ETA: I may not go back for the next one because the OBs there won't prescribe birth control (Catholic hospital). Once we moved to MD I stayed there because it was still easy to go back and forth. We live just over the line, still close to the Hill. I loved my doctor, but now we have LO, and I know I would have to take her to appointments sometimes, and I think a closer hospital would just be better. AAMC is like 20 minutes from our house straight down 50, and there's rarely any traffic.
