@pinkcupcake: @junebugsmama: @lamariniere: Thanks guys. Luckily she slept through without any nightmares. She has talked about it a little today, but not with the intensity off yesterday and no random crying. Hopefully if I don't mention it she will forget.

My son is afraid of a lot of different characters, but it has gotten (somewhat) better with age. I just keep reiterating that they are not real, that they are just drawings or cartoons.

When I was little I loved the fairies making frost in Fantasia. Maybe she would like to replace it in her mind with that? Just an idea, if you can find it on you tube. It's the nutcracker
Music.

Don't feel bad! They get freaked out by the oddest things :) my daughter was scared shitless of Spider-Man. Like I couldn't get her to into our local grocery store without her crying because they had a huge Spider-Man balloon in the front. I don't have a ton of advice but we just reassured her that he's not real, he's nice, he's a friend, etc. It took awhile but I think she's better now??

And I think age 2/3 is when the fears go into overdrive. I swear, she was scared of everything this year! It's slowly getting better :) Good luck!

we watched how the Grinch stole Christmas a few years ago and my kids were terrified that the Grinch was going to come out of their closet. Never thought a Dr. Seuss character would turn into years of being afraid of monsters. I don't think it's a mommy fail I think it's just normal.

You could always look for pictures of frost on things like leaves or cars or houses and talk to her about how frost actually forms.

Are you Christian by chance? LO got really freaked out by Halloween one day (it was these cartoons she was watching) and there is a Veggie Tales song on youtube, "God is bigger than the boogie man" and it totally cured her!

Hm. I'm not sure you failed. I think that sounds pretty normal!

L LOVES dinos, but he also will run out of dark areas of the house and say "mommy, there's a scary dino in there". We go look and nope! Nothing scary there.

Don't beat yourself up!

I screwed up big time today. It was frosty this morning so I told DD (3) that Jack Frost had been. She asked me about him and seemed to love the idea of him dancing in the garden and painting everything white. Then suddenly she freaked out, was terrified and crying because she thought he would come and get her. I hugged her and told her he was just pretend, not real and mummy was sorry for scaring her with silly stories etc. Anyway, she was fascinated by the idea of Jack Frost all day but scared at bedtime. She went to sleep whispering "Jack Frost is just pretend".

Ugh. Mummy fail. How can I make this better for her?
