It's a phase... Kind of. They stop being as frequent as they can communicate better. I found either redirecting or explaining that I have to put her down for just a minute so I can do "x" but that I'll pick her right back up. She caught on pretty quickly.

My DD is almost 12 months and she throws mini tantrums every day! It's so weird for me because my son never did that. He was such a good baby. She gets PISSSED if you take away a toy that she's playing with or if she runs out of her favorite food. We just talk to her calmly and say "Nooooo. No whining. Be nice." She totally understands I think. She just chooses not to listen. =\

@yin: thank you! I'm going to try that. I feel like this came overnight. She's done it at least 4 times today. I need to work on it ASAP or else it'll be pulling out my hair before she even learns to speak!

Tantrums are increasing in our house and they're often because my LO isn't getting his way or he wants something but can't communicate what he wants.

For the former, we redirect him the best he can. For the latter, I let him fuss/whine/cry until he decides to show us what he wants or gets tired of whining.

I know for us a big reason behind the tantrums is his lack of expressive language skills.

@Crumbs: My daughter does it more and more - she's 22 months. I think their will just gets bigger and bigger.

I would let my LO throw a fit and talk to him calmly. If that didn't work, then I would ignore him. He wanted the attention. Once I didn't give it to him, he would stop. He caught on quickly and stopped after a week or so. Now 2 year old tantrums are a tad different...

@sarac: I was hoping it was just a phase :( does this mean it'll be like this for a few years? I'm not used to this yet ... she was so sweet before! Haha

Pretty par for the toddler experience, I think. Redirection helps enormously for me.

DD is almost 13 months old and has started throwing fits. It first happened at the grocery store when I wouldn't let her run around and touch everything. Now she's been doing it whenever I hand her off to DH. We're having a nice stroll one minute, the next she's crying and whining so I carry her instead. When I try to hand her off to DH she shrieks and starts kicking and pretty much going crazy. She's done this multiple times today! I don't know what to do. She did it when I went downstairs to the kitchen, the shrieking and kicking is like she's in pain! But the second DH redirects her attention on something, she's all happy again.

Is this a phase? Did your LO go through this? How did you deal with it? I tried putting her down to a corner and slowly walked away when she did it earlier, but then all she did was play with her toys after. I know she's too young to understand, but I don't want this to be an everyday thing.

Any advice will be highly appreciated!
