I have found that it is better to just let him feel the feelings--I don't try to get him to stop, unless we are somwhere where it is inappropriate (library, restaurant), and then I will usually just take him outside. When he's in that state he can't hear me talking to him, so I just wait it out and then validate his feelings if I can .

My little girl (nearly 4) has some big emotions. She struggles with getting to words and has a complete shut down when she's going through a tantrum. She screetches and wails and starts screaming. I've tried asking her why she's upset but she doesn't really make any sense when we are in the thick of a tantrum.

What are your strategies for dealing with tantrums? Is there any way to de-escalate or do I just let it run its course?

How much of this is normal for her age?
