Going through the same with my 21 month old son! He whines on and off throughout the day. Drives me nuts! I hope it is just a stage. :)

The only bit of advice I have is...like everything else, it's just a phase and it will be over soon! DS was majorly whining for a few weeks (maybe a month?) and then learned some other new stuff and stopped the whining. Hopefully it's a short phase for you!!

@Chastenet: Ha, my parents do that when DD whines but it just makes her more mad.

I don't have much advice, but just want to say that I've been going through that a bit here too. Some days I'm just so tired of the whining. I try to ignore it or tell her that I can't help her until she stops whining (usually b/c I can't understand what she's saying). Hopefully it's a phase?!

I read something recently about how toddlers may not realize what whining is and what it sounds like, so maybe try to imitate for your LO so he understands exactly what sound you want him to stop making? I tried this with DD, can't say it necessarily worked...But worth a shot, right?

Sometimes a change of scene works for my LO (going outside or for a walk up the street etc) and other times her mood can be improved by some cuddles and my undivided attention.

Whining sucks!

@yellowbird: Let me know if you find that book! Snacks are basically the only thing that stops his whining...we may need to snack train together!

LO is in day care normally Monday-Thursday and all they talk about is how happy he is, and how well he listens. I know I should be happy about that, but I wish he didn't save it all for me!

@googly-eyes: Thank you! I really appreciate that. We're on vacation this week and I'm just so down watching other families have fun while my LO is miserable

I am dealing with this BIGTIME right now. Whining and tantrums. She is either whining and she doesn't know why because she won't tell me or she is screaming at the top of her lungs because i won't give her (yet another) snack. It's hard not tog I've in but I don't want to teach her tantrums and whining will give her what she wants because I know its bad to encourage the behavior. DH said tonight we're going to have to snack train her (like sleep train) because she won't give in!! I might just have to listen to her scream and ignore her before she finally gets it.

I try to take her outside or do something else when she's whining or tantruming, but it really doesn't work that well. She's relentless. I'm right there with you mama. Maybe I need a good parenting book to read.

LO is almost 22 months and I think he's determined to break me. (Or just trying to ensure he remains an only child...) It's just non-stop whining lately. This horrible noise that makes everyone around us cringe, literally. I'm just not sure how to handle it anymore, and it's really getting me down. I don't want him to think whining brings him whatever he wants, but I also don't want everyone around us to have to visibly cringe at the noise he is making. Basically I feel like one big discipline failure right now  Any tips for handling an especially whiny toddler?
