@ Edelweiss: you make me laugh! If it wasnt for the fact that my nesting hormones kicked in BIG TIME last week and I seem to have this manic need to get stuff done I WOULD have collapsed in a heap of hormones and tears while rocking back and forth and eating a bowl of cocoa puffs

@Mrs.Wagon, @Mrs.JumpRope: I am so glad we arent the only ones! Sometimes we feel cursed by the DIY gods! We totally had that moment of being embarassed to go back too and considered driving ten extra miles to go to a different HD lol.

You poor thing!

This is my husband. I ask him all the time if he's sure he's an engineer. We went to Home Depot 15 times this weekend and got so embarrassed going back that we started going to Lowes... And when we reached our embarrassed threshold, he started going to Walmart.

I feel for you. Really, I do.

@tillma: ok you need a big ole hug and some kind of silly dance to make you laugh... I know your pain... this sounds like every single one of our home improvement (or home maintenance!) projects. Wagon Sr. grew up with a general contractor for a dad so it totally perplexes me that he knows NOTHING. We have definitely been to Home Depot 6 times in one day. You poor thing. Now whenever we are FORCED to do something I tell him to buy every single possible part that looks like it might do the job and return everything else later.

I'm sorry - had had to chuckle a little because this sounds like my weekend w/ my toddler. Just think of all this as the universe preparing your for parenthood... in which every wrench will be throwing in what ever plans you might have for that day. ;-)

@keiki_mama: I am glad there are other couples out there like us! We always joke that we are becoming experts at doing this stuff but after spending hours on the project in the the first place we will never want to do it again! lol

@HLK208: Searched craigslist ebay and google last night in the hopes of finding an alternative but this one company in Europe is all I found. The thing that kills me is we threw away the other slipcover!! We could have tried bleaching it or at the very least I could have torn it apart and used it for a pattern to make a new one! Arrg. Now I am faced with either paying to throw away our free chair and buying a new one or going through the hassle of trying to make a slipcover myself(something I have done in the past and DID NOT ENJOY) Oh well...

@tillma: you poor thing! You know, it's not funny at all but sometimes parenthood goes exactly the same way! But tomorrow is a new day.

Good job on finishing the painting! Can you look for the chair cover on ebay maybe?

I was so hoping we could finish the nursery this weekend and have that stress off the table but I was so wrong....

A) We were lucky enough to be gifted what we thought was an Ektorp chair and ottoman for the baby's room for free because the slipcover was stained. After some research I found out that a new one would only be 50 bucks at our nearby ikea. Win win. So we picked it up and off to ikea we headed. When we got there they had the footstool cover in stock but not the chair cover. Arrg. It was set to arrive the next day which meant we were going to have to go back. We bought some other stuff and headed on our way.
B) We spent hours painting and it looks great.
C) DH installs expensive dimmer switch that we bought for baby's room only to realize when it doesnt work that we bought the wrong one. Back to Home Depot he goes to exchange it. When he gets home he realizes the new switch is only a switch and no plate. He has to go back to Home Depot to again to buy it. Switch finally gets installed and he moves on to installing new ikea light. I work on repainting the wall with the light switch because DH dinged the wall in the process.
D) DH installs new ikea light and cracks plaster ceiling. I now have to do a major patch and repaint the ceiling.
E) we realize we forgot to buy the special light bulb that goes in said ikea light. That's fine we have to go back anyway to buy the chair cover.
F) toilet downstairs randomly starts dis functioning at this time. DH knows the problem and knows it will be a quick fix. Off he goes the Home Depot for the fourth time to buy the parts.
G) in the mean time I paint the dresser navy blue. It actually turns out. Yeah.
H) I wash the blue paint out of the brush and go to touch up the paint on my newly patched ceiling. The brush is still a little damp so I stupidly give it a quick shake. This splatters watery navy blue paint out of what I thought was a well cleaned brush onto my freshly painted white walls and ceiling. I now get to touch up these too. With two coats of paint. Because white walls and navy paint don't mix.
G) DH try's to repair toilet but needs another part. He goes to Home Depot for the fifth time and returns with the right part in the wrong size. So back to HD he goes again to exchange it. He installs part and now toilet no longer runs but the tank has now started leaking. At this point DH gives up. We may need a whole new toilet but neither of us can admit it.
H) So we go back to ikea and buy our chair cover and some really expensive light bulbs
I) we install light bulbs and they don't work with the new dimmer switch...apparently there is such a thing as a dimmable light bulb. Who knew? Now we need new light bulbs but are too embarrassed to go back to HD for the seventh time.
J) Fine at this point I am exhausted and would like to sit down in my newly covered ektorp chair only as I discover after I have opened the newly purchased slipcovers and realized they don't fit this isn't an ektorp chair it is an older model that they don't make anymore. Which means that there are no slipcovers to be found. Unless I order from Europe. And pay shipping and tax and customs fees. This is more expensive than buying a new chair from ikea. We can't win.

So after all of that the only project which is actually finished after three long days of work is the painting. Which it better be because I went over it about 18 times. I am lying in bed exhausted and laughing about the whole thing because either I have managed to maintain my good humor through all of this or I have finally gone a little coocoo for cocoa puffs and I am really not sure which it is
