@Corduroy: Ah structural engineer, maybe that is more what we need! What you described is pretty much our situation, the deck footings were put on the sloped yard underneath and we think it's sinking which is what's causing the issues! Thanks for the info!

We had an inspection on a home we were in contract on. We could tell it was separating from the house and then the building inspector noticed some issues. Then we had a structural engineering friend take a look. Finally we got two estimates on fixes. It was a big job on a hill so it was 20-30k in work. We passed on the house but in retrospect we should have bought it and done the repairs.

Not specifically an inspection but my mom wanted to add on to her deck and when they came out they inspected the current deck and they told her what needed to be replaced or changed - so I would think anyone who builds decks would be able to inspect it for you

Our house has a giant deck out back, and we are starting to become concerned that it might be heading downhill in terms of safety. The original owners built it themselves and the support posts just don't look like they are in good spots / one of them is a little crooked. We'd really like to get someone to check the deck out and make sure it's safe before we spend money this summer replacing boards.

I found the NADRA site but I'd never heard of getting a deck inspected before. Has anyone ever had a deck specific inspection? How much did it cost? Did you feel it was helpful?
