Hello and welcome. I have PCOS and consider myself a bit of a fertility treatment drop out. At 9 months TTC we saw an RE and started meds like Clomid then injectables and after 6 cycles when he started talking about IUIs I said I had enough. We moved forward with a domestic infant adoption and it was the best decision I could have made. I did have a ton of people tell me to try a little longer, or just relax and it will happen, or you will get pregnant as soon as you adopt. I just had to ignore it.

I remember you from WB, too! Good luck with the adoption process. How exciting! I have no advice, but if IVF hadn't worked for us, we would have been doing the same as you and I did some initial adoption research a few years back. I know it is key to have a good agency! Good luck to you both!

@hotchildinthecity: Welcome! I'm sorry to hear about your difficulty trying to get pregnant but am so excited to hear you are starting the journey to adopt!

I also have PCOS and my husband and I adopted our son via private domestic adoption in May. I felt so much hope and excitement when we began the adoption process and it was very healing for me! I felt like every disappointment and heartache I experienced along the way was worth it when I held my son for the first time.

I can't wait to follow your story! :)

welcome and good luck with the adoption process!! and for the record, I don't think there is anything remotely selfish about adopting--you're giving a home to a child that needs it!

welcome! and good luck with your adoption journey. i know several families who have adopted internationally and my parents adopted my siblings through the foster care system (but that was quite a long time ago now!). be confident that you are making the right decision for you and your DH and what a blessing that will be for the little one who you welcome to your family.

@hotchildinthecity: It's absolutely no one's business except your own which route you go. My DH and I have already decided if we have one more miscarriage (on top of the 3 we've already had), our LO is it for us. We'll inevitably get questions about why we haven't given him a sibling, but again...no one's business but ours.

@hotchildinthecity: I agree with @spaniellove:, sometimes people who don't understand infertility might say that. Infertility is an emotional journey and what treatments you decide to go with is completely personal and up to you. We all have degrees of what treatments we would feel comfortable with.

I really hope your friends and family are supportive of your decision to move to adoption.

Welcome! A few years ago, I, also, decided to decline fertility treatments for PCOS and proceed with adoption. Two years later, my DHand I welcomed home our DS (from South Korea). Even with all of its challenges, I can honestly say that adoption was the absolute best decision I ever made....and my DH and I can't wait to do it again!

Your body, your business! People suck and hopefully they aren't jerks about it. It is *so* personal. But yeah, people are nosy, so you have to decide whether you want to go the honest route or the STFU route:)

Yep! I'm from WB! I wondered if I should have tried to go incognito LoL ;)

Well unfortunately we've become a little enamored by one particular child who is in Korea and is a little over a year old ;) So no more browsing databases until we get the process rolling!

Our general plan is for someone about 2 years old, international or domestic. Many of the "waiting" children have some special needs, which we're totally open to!

This was actually a fairly intuitive decision for US, but we know that a lot of people will not agree, and I'm concerned about the questions about why we didn't try harder. I feel a little selfish for wanting my health and my body back, over having a natural baby of my own. So I'm going to have to be ready with some answers, I think :)

@sapphiresun: I've actually been eating a Paleo/low carb diet for over a year now! It really helped with some stomach issues I was having, but no real help with the PCOS, unfortunately.

I had almost the identical experience going off BC, and have PCOS too. It took us 19 cycles to get pregnant without any further issues for me or male factor issues. But the ONE thing I've ever found that helps with the PCOS issues and lets me lose weight is completely cutting out refined carbs and alcohol... it sucks because they're awesome though.

Welcome! So happy you made a decision you and your SO are comfortable. Domestic adoption is in our family plan, but we aren't close to starting yet. There are a lot of people I know IRL that have adopted.

I would look for a support group in your area. There is a ton of paperwork and waiting involved with adoption and it is nice to lean on people that have been there or are going through the same things you are.

Hi - first post on HelloBee!

My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for over a year. As soon as I went off my birth control, I gained 25 lbs almost instantly. I found out I have PCOS, and got put on Metformin. The metformin has made me absolutely miserable, has not really helped take off the weight, and certainly hasn't helped me get pregnant.

We both went to the fertility specialist, and found out that my husband has low morphology and motility. We found out that I have very few eggs left for my age (I'm almost 31). I did the HSG and while everything was fine there, they recommended IUI. I went to the injectables meeting where they walk through the whole process, and personally I just didn't feel it was for me. I already feel like a stranger in my body with the effects of PCOS and I was concerned about the side effects of the shots, and that it could take several IUIs to even work.

My husband and I sat down, and he immediately felt uncomfortable with the whole process. After a long heart-to-heart, we've decided to move forward with adoption. We'll most likely be doing either special needs international adoption, or adoption from foster care here in the U.S. We're filling in our families this weekend, and I'm a little nervous! I'd love to hear from other people going this same route!
