Last year my LO was almost 2 and we did it the regular way and she had fun putting the eggs into the cups when I called her over. But this year, since she'll almost be 3, I'm going to have her draw with crayons first then dunk and also use rubber bands and painters tape to make designs.

I never grew up dying eggs at Easter. Do you just use hard boiled eggs? I'm assuming if you use food safe dye you can eat the eggs afterwards?

We did the traditional egg-dying way we E last year and it was pretty successful. The most annoying part is that I forgot how long you have to let the eggs sit in the colored dye water to get good color. Of course E just wanted to dunk, and dunk, and dunk and didn’t really want to wait the several minute period to get good color on the eggs. But, it worked for us to have her put eggs in each of the cups, leave the table and play for a few minutes and then “check on the eggs” to see if they were ready. She also put some stickers on them once they were dyed, but she wasn’t as into stickers back then. This year she is all about stickers, so we’ll prob do more stickers.

She wore an apron and I laid down towels and newspaper and it wasn’t too messy.

I was wondering about this but i anticipate a monstrous mess. Maybe she can paint some eggs? *shrug*

We DD was 2 we used these q-tips that you broke and then the ink came out and you colored the eggs - you can see the yellow one on the table. We also used rollers that you put coloring on then roll on your eggs - pic attached they are on the far left

All from Target

WE just did it the traditional way last year (she was 1 1/2) and she as just fine! we made it very clear that "we don't spill these cups" and she was extra careful. Of course lots of newspaper/towels down just in case. She had more fun coloring the eggs and then we would dip them and she could see her "artwork" that stayed white while the rest of the egg went to a color. Stickers never stayed on very well for us.

I'm starting to think about Easter, and I would really like to dye eggs this year with L. We skipped it last year, but now he's almost 2 and I think he would get a kick out of it. But I'm trying to think of the best way to do this! Realistically, if I try to get him to do things the traditional way he is just going to want to dump out the containers of dye.

Any tricks or tips? How does your toddler help decorate eggs? Stickers? Markers (if that's safe - I'm not sure?) Something else?
