Pedialyte is definitely good as a preventative... My kids don't enjoy the taste but would still take small sips .. She doesn't need to have huge amounts even a little will help.

@MamaG: this was the same advice the doc at the walk in clinic told us. We tried popsicles too, but LO was indifferent on them. We just pushed water as much as possible.

We are going through this too. I wish I had started Pedialyte sooner but I also felt like it was only needed in extreme situations. LO got very dehydrated though & as soon as I started pushing the Pedialyte she improved & had nice wet diapers again. We give it to her any way she'll take it - frozen in a mesh feeder, bottle, sippy cup, or a small regular cup with help.

You can definitely give pedialyte! L never likes the liquid but will eat the freezer pop versions. We've also tried coconut water to help too.

You can certainly give pedialyte. LO won't drink it. Her doctor has suggested gatorade diluted with water (50/50) as well. I'd also try popsicles. Our doctor said the sodium in the gatorade or pedialyte is important. We just went through a stomach bug that included vomiting but she was still drinking water and using the potty at her normal rate.

I give young coconut juice--not the canned stuff, rather I buy the whole coconut. In my area it's about $2 each?

We have given it when R just won't drink anything else and I don't want her to get dehydrated. She will suck down a cup of the Target brand orange flavor.

So LO has had diarrhea since Friday. So for four days. She's barely had a wet diaper since; maybe one a day with minimal pee and overnight is practically dry when she's usually a soaker.

We have been trying to push water as much possible. and even ice cubes which she usually loves.

I don't think she's dehydrated yet because she doesn't have any other symptoms besides the lack of wet diapers. What do you think?

Also, I'm trying to prevent dehydration now especially because we have few hot days coming up. I'm confused as to the use of pedialyte. Can I use it when she's not dehydrated yet?

Has anyone made their own pedialyte?

Thanks!

P. S. LO is 2 and this is the first time diarrhea has lasted this long so I'm inexperienced!
