I also read it and thought "great, I not only have PPD, but now I'm responsible if my LO is short?!? thanks for the help "researchers"?"
I would think they should have been a bit more responsible and continued to study "why" than saying "we found a link but don't know why they're linked."

@yoursilverlining: I agree. I think it was a little insensitive and not very constructive.

I do get what the article is saying, and logically it makes some sense. It would be nice if it had been framed a little more positively for moms/moms to be though. Like, saying something about how important it is to talk to your doctor about whether or not what you're experiencing is PPD because there can be long term physical consequences to your children if you let your PPD go untreated (ie, it affects the entire family, not just the mom). I think too, the end is a little flip, just saying basically that a parent's "mood" is to blame - moods are something you cam control, PPD isn't. KWIM?

I read this article today too, I get the hold feeding changes/tending to sick children, etc. But, I usually don't believe the whole generic-ness of these types of studies.

Since the overall argument of the article is that a mother who cannot and does not take care of her child 'properly' due to being ill essentially causes a stunt in their growth, I'd say it makes sense. Just like if a mother had broken both her legs and/or was in the hospital a lot due to other issues. Depression's a more common issue, though, so I can see why the article focuses on that correlation. And we all know it can be very debilitating. Children who are not well taken care of do not flourish, period.

Came across an interesting article. What do you think?

My mom had extremely severe PPD for the first year of my life (and never went on to recover fully to this very day). And I'm 4 inches taller than her and 5'5", which I think is relatively tall, and was always taller than most kids in my class growing up. But, my family was also a really good support system for her and I was always extremely well taken care of no matter where she was in her treatments. So maybe that is why I didn't have any trouble.
