I'm sorry you're feeling this way, and glad you're getting help. The feeling of detachment is pretty normal if you're depressed  but it does get better. It took me a long while without medication... I hope you feel better faster with meds.

And I'm struggling to keep it together in front of the kids too, for the same reason :bummed: It's not helping that this election had been the nail in the coffin of my relationship with my parents, and a good friend has cut ties for some reason I'll never know, so I really feel like there's no one there for us.

Thank you all so much. For those who have taken it, could you drink alcohol on it?

I took Lexapro years ago and found it helped a lot. Are you nursing? I only ask because i was very depressed and anxious starting around 6 weeks PP and they told me I couldn't take Lexapro because I was nursing. I am on Zoloft and it's been amazing! Hope you start feeling better soon! It's great you got help right away. It will take a few weeks before the meds really kick in.

@Paddington10: Sorry to hear you are feeling this way. I dont have any personal experience with depression but I know that having a newborn definitely adds more stress to the situation. I have an 11 week old and a 4 year old and its still pretty tough some days. So in that area I know it definitely does get better

@Paddington10: I agree with aimed121 - good for you for getting help and being open about these feelings. That's sometimes the hardest part.

I've dealt with anxiety my entire life and the election totally did a number on my progress. I took Lexapro when I was in college for a bit, but have been on Prozac most of my adult life. The Lexapro was helpful, but the prozac just really seems to be a good fit for me.

For the first six months of my son's life I felt just as you've described. You will feel better! You've already taken the first step to taking care of yourself, which is so powerful and important. I know you might not feel strong right now, but honestly, you've proven that you are so strong in admitting that you don't like these feelings and you don't want to/deserve to live in anxiety.

My only advice is to take advantage of any support you have. Let others help you. Your son knows you're his mom and your bond will grow no matter what. Rest and take care of YOU. Thank you for sharing and reaching out. Best of luck to you.

I don't have any experience with this drug but just wanted to chime in to say well done to you for getting help - post partum and depression is such a difficult thing and you are so brave and strong to have sought out help - doing the best thing for you and your LO, despite how you are feeling. It may not feel like it now, but it will get better, it will get easier and you will eventually feel more attached. It's ok, more than ok, to go just through the motions for a while - the attachment will come and the fear will go - this will pass even though I know it doesn't feel like that in the depths of this. be kind to yourself.

I have a sister that takes lexipro I know she takes 1/2 a pill not sure what that dosage would equal to be, but she says it takes a few weeks to regulate and find her right dose!

Prayers it helps you!

Hello Ladies,
It's been a while since I posted here, and I hope everyone is doing well.
This is not a political post, but since the election, I have been feeling anxious and depressed -- scared, sleepless, on edge, afraid. I just started taking Lexapro. Does anyone have experience with this drug? I am going to be taking 10mg.
I feel awful. I don't sleep, I live in constant fear of something bad happening, I have intrusive anxious thoughts, and I just want to hibernate in my bed. Will this get better? Does Lexapro help? :-( Any insights would be appreciated. My son is six weeks old and I feel totally detached from him; it's an effort to be "on" for his sake when I just feel terrified all the time.
