Stupid questions. To get a depth of 12 inches, are you digging down? And doesn't that cover a portion of the playset with mulch? Like if I did 12 inches but kept my swing set sitting on the ground (as opposed to on top mulch or gravel) it could come over the first rung on the ladder and the rock wall.

Also, FYI if you use rubber mulch you need much less. Our swingset has a 5ft deck and I think we only need 4 inches according to safety regs. Which is good bc that's still over $1k!

I think we're just doing woodchip (maybe the rubber one though) and going with 12".

My kids are very fall prone even when supervised!

Oh which ones are you using? I thought the tiles were crazy expensive... like cost more than my playset expensive.

This is so timely because we will be doing this as well! We debated gravel, mulch, rubber mulch but I actually think we're going to use outdoor rubber tiles. I'm hoping this will be less mess and less cleanup when we want to take it out

If you put pea gravel under your playset, what depth did you use? I know safety regs say between 6-12 inches, but that's a lot of gravel! Wondering how many others used and what size beams you used for a border.
