@yin: ugh same here! My house looks like a nursery threw up.

Moving into new house next week and am determined to keep shit under control. Most toys in the playroom, bigger pieces (cozy coupe, rocking horse) in the basement. A basket in the family room. That's it. That's the plan anyway. Their clothes all fit into the dresser they have and some hanging in the closet. Next size up are in bins in the basement.

@looch: @yin: You guys are making me feel better. I mean I know we have a lot of crap but I feel like that just comes from having kids! My mom said she stayed home with us 3 kids and we never had this much stuff. But I remember our dining room never had a table in it because it was just a toy room. We had legos and cars and barbies and baby dolls and books and all that stuff too. Maybe she just forgets. I know there are areas we could improve though!

I think what you have is less than average. I SAH, and my house looks like a toy store. We have toys in the play room, kitchen, family room, and in the kids' rooms.

@T.H.O.U.: I try not to buy too much per season and I only buy what I think they will need. I try to stick to 5 bottoms, 3 sets of PJs. We always seem to have a lot of tops since people gift those. I like dresses for my DD, so I will buy 5-6 per season and that's it. With my older LO, I tend to just replace things that are outgrown or ruined (pants with holes) I also do laundry like every 3-4 days. Since I WAH, it's easy for me to just pop a load in or take a 15 min break to fold clothes.

@T.H.O.U.: It doesn't sound like you have that much stuff, I mean, you have a good amount, but it's not like you have piles of clothes on the floor.

Maybe your mom is reacting to all the stuff being in the bedroom (it seems this way from your post). What's your room set up? Are the kids sharing, do the rooms function like sleeping and playing spaces?

Oh, and we didn't have a ton of toys growing up, so my mom is also not used to the volume that we have.

Let's see. We aren't super organized people. DS1's clothes could probably all fit in one tall dresser. DS2 has two dressers that house his clothes plus other babyish items he still uses like bibs and burp cloths.

Toys are in the den and the playroom upstairs. And we have tons of toys. The den has three baskets of toys plus a play pen full (I need to move upstairs) and a play house plus a couple of push toys. The upstairs play room is more like a storage room for other toys including car tracks and blocks. We have way too much stuff but I don't give it away yet because we want a third child.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Its really not that organized and I still feel like we have toys EVERYWHERE.

I try to keep her room pretty limited and clean. She has 4 baskets in her closet (2 for dress up/2 for stuffed animals). She has a small 3 shelf bookshelf that are her toys. Everything else is under her bed for toy rotation. She also has a set of baby doll bunk beds that sit in her room.

Living room is a couple of bins/baskets under our tv that has blocks and stuff and a toy bin that has all the random little toys that kids seem to accumulate. Today she was playing with a headband, a pair of binoculars, and a ball.

Patio/Playroom has her craft supplies (and my craft supplies which needs to be sorted/cleaned out). And a lot of brothers bigger stuff. Out there she has a train table and little people house. Her baby doll stroller and an art board is out there (but I think I'm selling that). We had a play kitchen but it took up way too much room and never got used. I have a nice doll house in the garage but I dont know where to put it!

@lamariniere: I need to get more serious about limiting their clothes! How do you do it?

For example: Big sister has a 4 drawer dresser (long flat drawers).
1) Shorts/skirts
2) Pants/Leggings
3) Short sleeve shirts
4) Thicker pants and long sleeve shirts

In her dressing table she has 4 square drawers (maybe 10"x10")
1) Swim suits (we live in FL so she has a few plus coverups/hats)
2) Dance outfits
3) Underwear
4) Socks

Dresses and nice outfits and jackets are hung in her closet. On the top shelf of her closet again are two boxes, one for outgrown clothes and one for next season clothes.

This still leaves a bin of PJ's that are just on the floor.

Little brother is well on his way to having way too many clothes too! His room is set up similarly. I only do laundry on weekends so they need enough to make it a while.

Our house is a mess, but I don't claim to be organized.

Each kid has a 7-drawer dresser and a closet. As Xander grows out of clothes, I put them into Logan's closet. And as Logan grows out of clothes, I pack them up and give them to a friend who has a son a little younger than Logan.

For toys... there's no organization. Xander has a ton of toys all over his room. Logan has a couple things in his room. And then the office and the living room are filled with toys.

We live in a modest sized apartment so we don't have room. Each kid has one dresser with clothes, that's it. We don't have closets. As for toys, there are two bins and a play kitchen in the living room and DS has an ikea shelf full of toys in his bedroom (it's over-flowing though). DD has no toys in her bedroom. 60% of the toys were given to us. I actually need to purge all of the really babyish toys. I try to get rid of things as we don't need/use them. Other than a few toys and maybe a few sentimental pieces of clothing, I probably won't save any of their childhood stuff.

@T.H.O.U.: you have far less than me. I feel like I'm in a zoo.

I think this means I have no organization!

Each kid has one six drawer dresser, and a closet of clothes. I go through their drawers and closets seasonally to sift through clothes that they don't fit into anymore. I have two girls, so Chloe's clothes get put into bins to pass down to Charlotte.

Our house majorly lacks storage & I don't have a play room, so my house is a free for all with toys. :bummed: my living room has a doll house, baskets with toys & right now the floor is covered with blocks and a few baskets the kids dumped out.

The girls bedrooms are filled with toys, too.

Those with multiple kids, how do you organize toys? My mom is in town and thinks its CRAZY the amount of toys and kid stuff we have for 2 kids that are full time in daycare.

Clothes -
Big Sister (age 4) has a dresser, a dressing table, and a closet of hanging clothes.
Little Brother (age 1) has a tall dresser, closet of hanging clothes and a bin under his crib of clothes to grow into.
- Both have a bin on a shelf in their closet for stuff they outgrow. I sell twice per year.

Toys -
She has 3 pull out bins of toys under her bed for a toy rotation. She has a bin of craft supplies on the back porch, after the baby she doesn't have much in the living room.
Baby has lots of toys in multiple bins in the living room. And then around the house a walker, a zany zoo, a cozy coupe, and a ride on toy. So it feels like a lot.
