I am lucky that my daughter has never really thrown up a whole lot but even when she does it doesn't bother me. Though now she is old enough to know when it it coming and she will go to the bathroom and throw up in the toilet.

I run from it as fast as I can. I have an unhealthy reaction, it fills me with anxiety and I'm not able to be in the same room. I use to have to leave the house of building so I've made some progress. I realize I should see a dr for this.

@Red: Usually when he throws up, it means that he's sick alas... will definitely look into GERD though!

Sorry if this sounds rude, but is it normal for Charlie to vomit so regularly? Does he have GERD?

My LO spit-up A LOT when she was younger (<8 mos) but after I figured out that it was because of food allergies and started avoiding those items, she no longer spit up. I wore a lot of wipeable jackets in those days.

Luckily, my LO holds food down well so we don't have much of a relationship with vomit.

@mrbee: Hahaha! Glad I could help. You had to clean up vomit, no need to feel guilty on top of that :)

@MegWag: Yah he can burp himself now... I was probably just needlessly blaming myself.

@MegWag: I think it varies for each kid. My LO started burping on his own probably around 6 months old. I still occasionally pat his back after a feeding, but it's more for comfort. If I feed him right before I put him down for a nap, he will wake up and let out a big burp. :)

@mrbee: At what age to kids stop needing to be burped? I had assumed a child Charlie's age wouldn't need to be any more. I've got so much to learn...

I worry about it because when she's sick or getting mucus in her chest, she throws up. I've learned to run from the carpet as well. My SO, not so much. >.<

My LO is usually good at holding down his food with the occasional spit up at almost 9 months old (typically a reaction to an allergy). He had what seemed like a never ending flow of vomit that happened twice, and it was an interesting experience. Before having a kid, I thought being covered in vomit was gross. Now I could care less that I'm covered in it and smell bad. I just worry about how he is feeling and try my best to comfort him.

Charlie throws up pretty regularly, especially if he's not feeling well. So when I am holding him after he takes a bottle, I've learned to follow two rules: 1) I'm not standing on a rug and 2) his mouth is pointed in a direction where potential puke will do the least damage.

Two nights ago, Charlie threw up in his sleep all over his crib. I blamed myself because I haven't been burping him as much when I put him down. So last night, I made sure to lightly burp Charlie after he finished his nighttime bottle (another story in of itself), and I made sure to follow my two rules.

He of course vomited everywhere. I was happy at least that the damage wasn't too bad (he threw up on the hardwood floor instead of on the rug). After he threw up, I carried him to the tub and put him in there to change him out of his grody sleep sack. He then promptly threw up some more! He is good at vomiting. It takes a lot of planning to make sure his vomit doesn't ruin any of our furniture or rugs.

I guess when it comes to potential vomit, I have learned to be pretty paranoid. Do you worry about vomit, or is your LO good at holding down their food?
