@MsLipGloss: He can read in the traditional sense, but not for long periods. I will get him a digital copy of the book, to be read by his computer (something I do regularly in my job).

I haven't read this one, but the author worked at my university. She was blind from birth.

I have a few recommendations - I'll star the ones I've read and/or provide commentary:

http://www.amazon.com/This-Is-Not-Life-Ordered/dp/1573244139
*I read this when my dad first got sick, it was extremely good. Just saw that he's a guy though, and it might be more woman oriented.

http://www.amazon.com/Dancing-Your-Disabilities-Impossible-Dreams-ebook/dp/B00IIWH4DS/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1396895274&sr=1-1&keywords=self+help+disability
My mom (psychologist) says that she has several clients who have disabilities who have read this and really loved it

http://www.amazon.com/Get-Out-That-Pit-Deliverance/dp/0785289739/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1396895359&sr=1-1&keywords=get+out+of+that+pit
*Love this book, love Beth Moore - Christian based

@LemonLong: thanks so much! I'm checking it out now :)
The power of positive thinking by Norman Peale was the only one I could think of so far. It's Christian based as well, but I was still able to get a lot out of it as a non-Christian several years ago.

I just feel desperate to help this poor student who is so down on himself and his abilities! :(

I liked this book:

http://www.amazon.com/Love-Does-Discover-Secretly-Incredible/dp/1400203759/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1396894674&sr=1-1&keywords=bob+goff

It is Christian based, which I didn't know when it was recommended to me, but even as someone who hasn't gone to church since middle school I didn't think it was too preachy or anything.

Ladies and Gents of the hive - I am trying to compile a suggested summer reading list for an incredibly sweet college student having a rough time in life.

I am looking for books (self help genre mostly) that talk about positive thinking, choosing your attitude, etc. This wonderful student has a disability and is dealing with a lot of negative feelings. Please help if you can!!!
