What time is the baby's bedtime and your bedtime? If you go to bed a couple hrs later you could change him right before you go to bed if he is wet then. My own almost 4 year olds still wets over night and I'm a super light sleeper so I check on her and change her pull up if needed and that seems to help a lot!

@Iced Tea: Thank you! I remember reading somewhere that there are a whole series of maturations that happen that make kids more able to sleep through the night, and one of the last ones to happen is hormonal changes that lead to less urine production - I will be really happy when this falls into place!

Last night we tried sitting on the toilet before bed + size 5 huggies overnight, and I don't want to jinx it but no leaks! He still woke up a couple of times between 5 and 6 am since he's used to doing this, but since we didn't have to change his outfit he went right back to sleep until 6:15, which I will gladly take! I also ordered honest overnights and two piece pajamas yesterday to add to our arsenal!

Thank you, the advice contained here is awesome!

Like one PP said, this was a phase in our house. I just wanted you know there’s hope that it might not be a long-lasting problem! I don’t remember how long it lasted, but I didn’t find an iron-clad solution before she just stopped wetting so much out of the blue.

@SweetiePie: I didn't know that about the tabs. Hah about the size 6, I just cancelled my order for size 4s. I had a bad experience with the size 5 leaking, but probably because it wasn't the right brand or I put it on wrong. Thank you!

Weight requirements on diaper packaging mean jackshit. I would go up to a 5 or even a 6. My 11mo is only maybe 22lbs and overnight I have him in a size 6. It looks ridiculous but it works. You have to overlap the tabs to get a tight fit at the waist. And do the tabs as close to the top of the diaper as possible. Make sure penis is pointed down too.

Our older daughter was always a super heavy nighttime wetter, and we had the best luck with either Target brand or Luvs overnight diapers a size up from what she normally wore. Our younger daughter was recently soaking through at night, so we put her in size 5 diapers (which are big) overnight, and 4’s during the day. She’s fine with regular diapers though, and doesn’t need the overnight ones.

@periwinklebee: let us know how the new diapers go! Weirdly my LO slept until almost 7 today even though she was wet through her pjs. She’s normally up at 6! So maybe she doesn’t give a crap about the wetness after all. Babies are so weird!

@agold: Thank you! Sposies were a life saver for a few months but for some reason stopped working as well...

@annem1990: Interesting that a larger diaper on top didn't work as well as the larger diaper on the bottom. I did have one night of trying the sized up diaper on the bottom which didn't help, but maybe it was the wrong kind of larger diaper. Arghhhh - between different brands and different sizes there are too many possibilities!!!

@Littlebit7: @KT326: Off to order two piece jammies!

My friend has this issue with her two year old girl. They haven’t found a solution and her kid needs bathing upon waking and all her bedding needs washing.

I was going to say maybe an overnight diaper with a pull up on top. Either a well fitting pull up and a larger specific overnight diaper or slightly larger pull up and well fitting diaper? Is it the leg holes not fitting in a larger diaper? I feel like the larger diaper is the solution. When I sized my second up to a 4 I just had to pull them up high at the front and back so the leg holes fit. And I’m obsessive about untucking the leg ruffles. Sometimes his diapers are really really full but we luckily haven’t had a leak since sizing up a few months ago. My sister had to buy special overnight diapers for her heavy wetter son. And they help a lot with the occasional leak only.

Two piece pajamas definitely help! We were having leaks when DS was in footies, we switched to two piece sets (mainly because he started refusing to wear footies) we stopped having leaks! Specific night time diapers also help.

Huggies overnight up one size. Pulled up higher in front than in the back. I did find the sposie inserts helped more than hurt. But also need to put them more towards the front
Two piece Jammie that fits well (ie doesn’t pull the diaper down)
I’d say that even with this, we have about 1 leak a week. Both of my kids are big water drinkers.

We went through the same thing for like a month around that age. So frustrating!!
The only thing that worked was going way up a size in diapers. They were massive. He was well below the lb limit, but it worked. Even the larger diaper over his normal size diaper didn’t work. He sleeps exclusively on his tummy.

@periwinklebee: Huggies overnights seem to be the best for me. But, my girl also wakes up soaked in pee, often. I have heard that there are pad things you can buy on amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/Sposie-Booster-Diaper-Doubler-Count/dp/B0083973FK/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1547835683&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=diaper+pee+pads&psc=1

I haven't tried them yet.

Also, something I have done.. is that when I put my girl into her pjs, I still put a regular diaper on her. I will do the whole rest of the bedtime routine, even rock her, and then put on her night time diaper with lots of desitin. That way she has hopefully gotten some of the pee out before bed.

I second the idea to try putting him on the toilet before bed. We started doing this with my 20 month old who has leaked out of every night diaper we tried and it’s helped some. Her diaper is still super full in the morning, but not leaking out every night like before. I usually run the faucet and sometimes pour a small cup of warm water over her into the toilet to “encourage” her to go. She’s at the point now that she’s almost even figured out to pee when we put her on the toilet, but that helped a bit at first.

DS is 11 months goes through phases where he pees through his diaper whether he’s napping or overnight no matter what size diaper he’s wearing or how much he drinks. I think in his case it’s related to sleep position and if he’s on his belly or same side most of the night. It usually stops on his own after a few days. So really I have no good advice, just commiseration. I hope he stays dry soon!

Ugh! The worst! I don’t think it’s a medical issue. Our LO (11 no) also wakes up with a crazy full diaper and sometimes leaks that wake her at 5:30 with just having a few ounces before bed. Baby dry in one size up usually works for us but not always. I’d try more brands if I were you-just order a few on amazon. I think the leaks are based on how the baby sleeps so different diapers that fit slightly differently may work better. Our LO is a tummy sleeper so she leaks down her front. I might try a new brand too since this post inspired me. Good luck!

We have used the overnight diapers from the Honest Company, as well as, a plastic diaper cover over it.

Dappi Waterproof 100% Nylon Diaper Pants, 2 Pack, White, Medium https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0035JL912/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_waFqCbJME4BYG

(* The ones above run large. My 4-year-old wears a M over his underwear, H.C. training pants, and H.C. Overnights. Pay attention to sizing. I like these bc they are vinyl nylon and can be tossed in the washer AND dryer.)
