I'd have it all at once. Just put out some apps and food and drinks and call it a day! You can set it as an open house from noon til 6 pm and people can just drop by whenever!

Ok it does sound like it might be fun :) I just worry where to do the cut off at...I mean, who do we invite? I would want it real small...but I feel like everyone close to us would stop over before we could have the party anyway, which would defeat the purpose.

An open house would be good, instead of a formal party. Just have some drinks and apps out, and let people stop by all day on a weekend whenever they want. You could just do an evite or call people and let them know they are welcome to stop by anytime on Sunday (or whatever day).

If you can wait for better weather, a BBQ is usually a cheap way to have people over and feed them.

We opted not to have a housewarming party because we bought our house right in the thick of wedding parties (engagement, shower and wedding) so I didn't want people to think we were hoping for more gifts, plus I was all partied out!

We had a pretty low-key, inexpensive housewarming party with about 25-30 people. Everyone was really excited and wanted to see the house, so I put out appetizers (caprese skewers, deviled eggs, things like that), put on some music, and let people mingle! It was really fun, actually! I was worried about 'entertaining' people, but really, everyone just wanted to get a house tour and come chat!

Word of mouth is what we did. We just grilled out burgers and hotdogs, played some backyard games and just hung out. It was mainly family but we invited a few friends as well. I say do it!

We just invited a few close friends over for a BBQ lunch and it was a lot of fun. Kept it simple and casual with burgers, hotdogs, and beer :)

Have a little party! I would just open up the house from like 2-5 and have some appetizers and drinks out. We had a few people over who helped us move and fed them, gave them booze and played games. :)

Our housewarming party was pretty casual. We just had drinks and apps, we did evites, and told people no gifts (though many brought them anyway). I'm really glad we did it, it was a really fun night!

...just so everyone can come and see our new (old) house. I don't want to go overboard and spend tons of money on food and drinks and don't want people to feel like they need to bring us anything. I think he mostly just wants people over the first few weeks to show it off, but keeps telling friends "we are having a housewarming party"

Would you just invite people over as they can come, or have a day planned for people to stop over and we provide a few appetizers and some drinks? Maybe just do e-vites or word of mouth? I really don't want anything big or fancy but I want to compromise with DH since he is looking forward to having a "party".

Thoughts? Tips or advice?
