@DesertDreams88: a pessary is the “insert” option you’re mentioning and can be really helpful for a lot of women with prolapse!

@DesertDreams88: physical therapy is often very helpful for pelvic organ prolapse! I see lots and most of my patients don’t end up needing surgery!

@DesertDreams88: o man. One of my mom's friends had the mesh put in at least a decade ago. I know there was a big class action against one of the companies but it doesn't seem to be the device brand she used.

All that to say, she used the insert and avoided surgery for about 3 years with it.

Verdict is in and it is uterine prolapse. Cream was $250 a month and ineffective. She's going to try the insert option next.

@DesertDreams88: I can totally see my husband one day giving my daughter obscure comments and scaring the bejesus out of her when I’m just having run of the mill menopause struggles. “She’s dry and it hurts and listen it’s not cancer but it’s weird! Just ask your mom it seems serious because they prescribed something expensive.”

(I say this with total hope it is something NBD.)

@DesertDreams88: if it turns out it's just a menopause issue, my mom gets her progesterone cream and estrogen cream at a hippie store from a homeopath. It's a lot cheaper and does the job.

@LBee: hmmm That sounds more likely. I looked up more stuff about uterine fibroids and you're right, it doesn't sound like that.

My mom has uterine prolapse and has something similar to a diaphragm that she wears to hold it up. Surgery is an option but this works for her for now so shes happy with it so far. She's probably had the diaphragm for at least 5 yrs. Recently went in for a new one to adjust.

Maybe a prolapse of some kind? But surgery can fix that.

It honestly just sounds like it's related to menopause. Premarin cream (which helps with the dryness) can cost around $400 per month.

Uterine fibroids are fairly rare during menopause because fibroids grow from estrogen and menopause is caused by the lack of estrogen.

My dad told me secretly today that my mom is having some issues with her uterus but he didn't know the name of her condition. He urged me to ask her about it when I next get a chance, which I will, but I am wondering if you guys can help me figure out what it is in advance.

-59 years old, menopausal
-Very painful and dry to walk very much
-Meds are $500 a month so she's not taking them
-Not cancer, maybe could be down the road, but dad wasn't sure
- Didn't involve a biopsy or surgery to diagnose
- Could require a hysterectomy in the future
- she has breast fibroids, maybe this uterine fibroids?
