@gingerbebe: He *has* been eating melons or oranges almost every day now because they're so easy, we have a ton, and he LOVES them.... I've had the thought that could be it, but I'd hate to take away his favorite fruits, lol! But if that's the cause, it must be done. My other thought though is I read that citrus-y rashes usually appear in the BM area but that's not where his rash is; it's in the front. I should just go grocery shopping and get some different fruit....

It sounds like he's reacting to something if not formula - what is his solid schedule like? DS2 has a weird reaction on his face any time he has peas so we cut that out for now. DS1 didn't do well with a lot of berries, asparagus, and it's pretty common for citrus reactions too.

@DesertDreams88: I know triple paste is crazy expensive. We are a lower income, tight budget family, but I spring for it. It is so worth it.

@MrsSRS: I could look into buying some probiotics on the weekend! However, he eats a lot of yogurt - daily about 4-6oz, about 1/4 of his intake? So there's some probiotics there. I looked into Triple paste but it was really expensive compared the max strength diaper cream, which worked decently well. I'll think about it. As for face cream, we have Aquaphor & Aveeno, I'll ask the caregivers to use it more regularly.

Oh I thought your details were helpful! I'd go back to the other formula just to give it a try. It's a simple way to eliminate one variable. Maybe try adding a probiotic in case of yeast? Have you tried triple paste on the diaper rash and aquaphor on the face? I'd be super vigilant about keeping them slathered for a week and it might solve it.

@DesertDreams88: oh, $100 for a sick visit. Ugh! I'm sorry. Yeah, I understand why you don't want to go to the dr.

@bluestriped bee: I'm reluctant to go because I don't want to spend $100 to spend on a sick visit where they look at his skin and say it's just "probably a reaction to something" and give me similar advice to the internet.... which is what happened last time in April that I went for a skin thing.

I'll be honest here and ask why don't you take your LO to the dr and ask. There's no harm in asking the experts. We can guess but the dr could see it in person and ask your medical history and other info.

You have a lot of factors here. I would feel better getting the answers directly from a dr.

The red rash does sound like eczema and my DS has it. Aveno eczema cream helps when he gets it on his cheek. But that's only my guess.

Editing out a ton of detail....

Did your babies ever develop diaper rash or face rash as a reaction to increasing formula amounts (vs. breastmilk) or switching to a generic version of your formula brand? Dairy intolerance is not a issue, I think. He and I both had lots of dairy with no issues until 10m.

LO has had diaper rash for a month and face rash for 2 weeks. He's been doing 25% formula age 8-11 months, but a month ago, I stopped pumping at work so he went up to 50% formula, and now we are at basically 90% formula. Two weeks ago (on vacation) we started using Babies R Us formula instead of Similac. It only had one ingredient different than Similac.
