@RubyCali: @Mrs. Lion: I tried singing and it was awful. lol! I need to figure out some more interesting songs! lol!

@SugarplumsMom: Yup! Exactly! The more of a no-no item it is, the better it will work! She used to like wipes. Not anymore. My jewelry would be more fun. But distractions are also wearing thin - she just wants to go, go, go!

At 19 months, its gotten better. We can now reason with her a bit. We just ask her to lay down for us so we can change her and then we can play with some toys and she is finally able to understand that.

@shopaholic: It really does seem like E and K have a similar temperament! It never worked to pin down E because she will fight me and won't let up, so I never tried it long. What works for us is distraction. I give her something she's not supposed to have and it only works once or twice. I can't give her the same thing over and over.

Pearls and other jewelry, closed vitamin bottles, a little clock, figurines, and when all else fails, wipes work for us. I also have to wait until she's a little calmer before I change her. At public bathrooms, TP works, or the disposable liners since they make noise.

We definitely had that problem where diapers and clothes were near impossible to put on. I think it lasted about a month or so for us, and now it is much better. If she is at all cranky she still fights it, but she generally cooperates at 13.5 months. I also found that singing Old MacDonald did wonders because she loves doing animal sounds!

It is like wrestling an alligator some days! I hope it ends soon. I have a few things that aren't toys to give him and if that doesn't work I sing songs or blow raspberries on his belly. And then sometimes when I don't have the energy I just listen to him cry and go as fast as possible.

@MamaJ: I don't think DH really believes me that he cries because he never does for DH!

I should have mentioned that I DO have to give her a NEW "toy" all the time. It can stay interesting for a few changes, but once she's over it, she's OVER it. Throws it and flips over in a second. *sigh*

For some reason J likes holding onto desitin tube and it gives me a minute to do the change. Its a "special" toy given only during diaper change time. Also nanny holds LO on her lap for diaper change and that has some success as well.

We are suffering with this as well. No solution, just commiseration! I have sent LO to daycare in messy and stained clothes (hot pink amoxicillin all over the front), because I didn't have the energy to wrestle through an outfit change at 7am.

LO has always hated. HATED. having his diaper changed or having clothes put on. He also hates shoes, getting his face or hands wiped, and ESPECIALLY his nose cleaned.

Someone on the boards mentioned singing during these times, so I gave it a try. And it WORKS! He doesn't cry AT ALL now, and gives me big huge grins instead. The second I stop singing the wailing continues. Seriously, I am gonna need some more songs. I am still dumbfounded every time it works. The ABC song and Wheels on the Bus have changed. my. life.

It's worth a try ;)

When does this diaper changing misery end? I know it's so common that the LOs just do not enjoy diaper changes, so many things to see, places to go! But it has just gotten increasingly worse and worse.

K is VERY strong and strong-willed. Will flip over in a second, has no qualms about going head-first over any edges. If I change her on the ground she'll flip and be off and crawling away in a nano-second. "Pinning" her down as has been suggested, leads to full on banshee screams (not so pretty in public restrooms). I swear people think I am torturing her.

Someone please tell me when this phase ends?
