@FutureMrsMcK: Will try a toy trick today.
@Jennimac: @red_seattle: @shopaholic: @anbanan15: I don't think it is the laying on her back flat. She does in the PnP for naps and doesn't seem to mind.

We will try and warm wipes today even though as soon as we in swaddle and take off her clothes, even just the bottom, the screaming starts. DH says he is going to buy her a heat lamp today ;)
@threeplusme: we aren't even checking her diaper every time she feeds/wakes up at night anymore. Although last night we waited to long, major blow out and she has never cried so loud. As soon as we put a clean sleeper and swaddled again, she was fine and went to sleep.

If it helps you don't need to change her everytime she eats/wakes up. I only change poopy diapers at night. Being wet doesn't bother my daughter and once they get older they are going to sleep through the night for up to 12 hours with the same diaper on so skipping a diaper change or two when they wake up throughout the night is fine.

Just wanted to add that like others said, I suspect reflux was why X hated diaper changes and being on his back. Once he was 4-5 months he didn't hate them as much, and that's also when he stopped spitting up as much.

DS was like this. It was two things. He couldn't be on his back because of his reflux, so anything greater than 45 degrees from vertical sent him screaming. The second thing was the wipes being cold. We used cloth wipes and a wipes warmer and/or warm water for awhile. It helped with that aspect. He also hated anything else being cold like expressed breastmilk or his bath water.

K is like that also, but it was really the worst the first week! She's been a little bit better the past couple of days, 1/2 the time she is OK with diaper changes. Hopefully R will outgrow it a little too. In the meantime, diaper changes are usually a 2 person deal in our house. With one trying to keep her calm and soothed while we change as fast as possible!

I think our problem is like @red_seattle: - she hates being laid flat on her back. Such a problem for sleeping too. :(

Rowan hated a wet diaper and screamed all through changes until about 6 weeks or so when she started having more awake time and more awareness. Now she can tolerate wetness if she's fed and awake and will coo during changes. We just had to power through and get her changed as fast as possible. Good luck!

X hated diaper changes from the very beginning too. My MIL kept insisting it was the cold wipes, but that wasn't it. He hated being on his back-- he always has. We just powered through as fast as possible to get him back upright again. And as soon as we could, we stopped changing wet diapers at night, so that he wouldn't get riled up.

:(. Good news is, this is totally normal. She will get used to it. I know it's hard to see her cry, but obviously you're doing this for her own good. Just keep telling yourself that. When I'm having to do anything that makes LO uncomfortable (or anything gross like catching puke in my hands) I just repeat to myself, "Be the mom, be the mom." Silly, but it helps :)

I had this problem for about 6 weeks. I found that nursing him on one side before changing him helped, because he would be all milk-zenned out. He'd sometimes still get upset, but usually not as much, and I could calm him by offering the other boob.

We also had luck putting the Take Along Tunes toy (or anything that lit up and/or played music) up by his head as a distraction.

Aw, poor girl. And poor you! Are the wipes too cold? Have you tried different locations (on the floor?) I hope she gets used to it soon!

Reagan is only 5 days old but she screams bloody murder EVERY single time we change her diaper. We will leave the sleep buttoned on the top put a blanket on her. Nothing helps. She gets herself so upset and it just breaks my heart. Especially at night we don't want to change her cause then it takes her so long to settle down and get back to sleep.

Anything else we can try??
