@matador84: True, I definitely need to speed up the process!

@Pink Champagne: @mrskc: Going to try fanning or patting dry! He has a nasty diaper rash (because he poops 474748 times a day!), so I was trying to air him out... but manually drying should work too.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Yes! He has nailed DH and our carpet with poop before haha.

@mrskc: We had one on the way back to our house from my parents-a 2 hour drive. The gas station didn't have a changing table, so we did it in the car. It was crazy, but my super stocked diaper bag helped the situation a lot. I whipped out the changing pad. He was changed in no time. Also, the Munchkin Arm & Hammer bags helped contain the poopy clothes for the trip home. Ahh, parenting fun times!

Aww! My toddler is like this. She won't poop in a wet diaper, so she waits until we change her... and then she poops. And she doesn't like to be dirty, so if it's a big poop she'll go *some*, wait for us to change her, then go some more. It's such a production. I'm like, "JUST GO ON THE POTTY ALREADY!"

Can you put a clean diaper underneath him like someone else suggested? We used to do that when she was a newborn, and it helped a lot! Gosh, I remember the projectile poop, too! We totally had to run for carpet cleaner at midnight once!

@cascademom: lol, I swear my son saves his poops for the worst times like in the bath or when we're out of the house. He usually goes every couple of days and when he does, they are huge!

oh and @Pink Champagne: reminded me, I used to keep baby washcloths at the changing table to pat him dry instead of waiting for him to air dry

@mrskc: Somedays, it feels like he stores up the poop for pivotal times in the morning or night. I walked into the nursery this morning to the smell of poop. I knew immediately that he did. We've had some weekend mornings where he poops 2-3 times in a row, then none until the next day.

We use a little paper hand fan to dry LOs bum- much faster than sitting there waiting for it to dry on his own. Also, Target sensitive wipes work well and aren't too "wet" so less dry time. It sounds like speeding up the process might work in your favor!

@Pepper: Yeah I think it will eliminate out some steps. I wasn't really all that gentle with diaper changes...would have rather have a pissed off baby in 5 than drag it out forever!

@Pepper: luckily by the time they're mobile, they don't poop and pee so much. I remember these newborn diaper days. lol I used to always put a clean diaper under him first before taking off the old one.

Sounds normal. I remember those times where you just got a new diaper on underneath him and he would fill it right there. A few weeks ago, LO did that to me in the morning. It was like he decided it was the perfect time to poop. That's at 11 months old too.

Mobility makes it a thousand times harder. I'm lucky if I can change him on the changing table. I put his clothes on the other day while he stood up and went through the lower shelves of the changing table.

@matador84: @Adira: I will try that next time! We already go through 3 diapers per change, so it can't be worse than that, haha.

@MamaMoose: Oh jeez!! I can't even imagine. There would be poop. Everywhere.

Yeah.... now that he can crawl he HATES changes :( It is a mess. I always kept a prefold under his bum so I could just whip it out if a mess happened in process instead of another diaper.

@Pepper: too funny. I always put the clean diaper under LO first, it eliminates some, but definitely not all of those problems. ;)

Yes, do what @matador84: suggests! Just slap that new diaper under the old one before you remove it. Then if they start pooping on you, it's already contained.

Have you tried adding a clean diaper under the dirty diaper? Then you can eliminate out the washcloth step and just use the diaper if you have to and you also don't have to worry about an accident on the changing table.

I'm sorry, but this made me chuckle!

Xander doesn't hate diaper changes, but he doesn't make it easy because he's constantly bicycling his legs! Plus he's like a cat with a new little box - as soon as you get a new diaper on him, he poops in it! So it's often a production and I go through a few diapers at a time. BUT he's not unhappy about the whole situation - I think he finds it fun.

Anyone else have a LO who makes diaper changes into a huge production? LO is 3 weeks old, so he poops a LOT. He also loves open air accidents. Here's how a typical diaper change goes:

Wet washcloths for diaper change. Lay baby on diaper changer. Undo diaper. Give baby binky because he starts fussing. Assess damage. Take off dirty dipe and put washcloth over parts to make sure he doesn't spray me with pee. Wipe him off and wait for him to air dry. Replace binky as it fell out of mouth and baby is now crying. Baby poops on changer. Awesome. Clean baby bum off again. Wait for it to dry. Take out clean diaper. Place clean diaper under baby. Baby pees all over me and clean diaper and outfit. Sigh heavily. Remove now wet diaper. Remove wet clothes. Wipe off baby. Put new diaper under baby. Smear dipe cream and ointment all over bottom. Baby goes #2 just a little bit. Sigh heavily. Replace binky as baby is screaming by this point. Baby rejects binky, just wants to scream. Wipe off baby. Put new dipe cream on. Put clean dipe on baby. Try to close diaper, but baby bunches legs up to prevent diaper from being closed. Gently pull down legs and attach diaper. Put on new outfit. Try to calm down baby, who is really pissed off.

Repeat this after 45 minutes.

LO had this exact same scenario happen this morning and he was REALLY pissed. He cried his first real tears!! Which in turn made me cry, haha.

Anyone else have dramatic diaper changes?? Or am I the only diaper change failure around here?
