@macintosh: I don't know about in the States, but in Canada you can get Pampers Cruisers in size 7 (sometimes difficult to find though!)

@macintosh: my son had the same situation... Into size 6 several months before 1 actually, and size 6 fit great still at age 16 months! He's not still growing in the same way now, more length.

@avivoca: ok, we are returning. Yay!

@MrsSRS: that is interesting. I did use Huggies early on. I refuse to buy Pampers because of the scent.

@gingerbebe: Diaper fit is just as confusing to me as baby clothes, no 2 brands fit alike!

@macintosh: well my son is tall and lean and Pampers have always worked best for us (DH gets enraged when I buy something else). Their overnight diaper I believe is the Baby Dry. We don't have a heavy wetter per se but the size 5 cruisers work for us right now. I imagine if we had leaks we would go for the Baby Dry.

@macintosh: probably just a different shaped baby. Target diapers are shaped like Pampers. We get leaks with Costco and other diapers shaped like Huggies. The overnight pullups are shaped like whatever that fancy brand of overnight "underwear" is though. The name escapes me...Anyway. I think longer babies tend to fit the Huggies general shape better and chunky babies Pampers. I bet Earth's Best is shaped like Huggies.

@macintosh: It wouldn't hurt to look or try. I don't do it so Imm not sure, but Amazon is usually great about returns.

@avivoca: Can you return an Amazon subscribe and save? It's from my moms account, too.

@MrsSRS: That makes me feel better! Target diapers don't work well for us for some reason, we always get leaks. Good call on the overnight training pants.

I have a giant child. I was afraid he'd outgrow diapers too, but he didn't. Target brand size 6 fit until he was 2.5, wearing a size 4T in clothes and about 35lbs. Then for nights we switched to the Target overnight pull ups which look like training pants but are super absorbent and a viable option for after size 6.

@macintosh: training pants are not as absorbent. Can your return your shipment of 5's and get some 6's?

@gingerbebe: he's not that chunky, he's just really tall. I'm hanging a harder time fastening the diaper securely around his waist, so I think it's sagging down and gapping at the legs.

@junebugsmama: yikes! I'm afraid that he will outgrow diapers well before he's ready to potty train.

Let me ask this since we clearly have a giant baby situation. Are training pants as absorbing as diapers? Is that a viable option when he outgrows size 6?

My son is about 25 pounds but he's 20 months and long and lean and just now going to size 5, so size 6 seems kinda big. Is he chunky? Huggies apparently work better for chubbier babies, and my friend swears by their overnights.

My 12 month old has worn Earth's Best Diapers for a while now and they usually work and fit well until he's ready to go up a size. They are a little stiffer than regular diapers so I've had to size him up well before the weight limits listed.

He's been wearing size 5 (27+ lbs) for a couple months now and he weighs 25 lbs. 3 times this week he leaked out the side of the diaper. Once he peed through at night, so I picked up some Honest Overnights in size 5 (Target didn't have size 6).

I'm wondering if he needs to go up a size already. I would pick up a pack to try but Target doesn't have size 6 in Earth's Best either. I just got our Amazon shipment of size 5s, too, Thoughts?
