@allison: glad there doesn't seem to be a well defined allergy ring, but frequent poops could be a sign if an intolerance as well depending in what the poops are like (my LO had mucus in them for awhile but I thought that was normal for breastfed stools, but he eventually developed blood in them and I quickly learned there was mucus all along :( mama fail!)

@lolabee: @allison: Ugh I'm so sorry your heading down the elimination road! I feel you! If you need any help with it PLEASE let me know. Out of the 21 months I breastfed, 19 were spent on some sort of elimination and 13 of them were on a TED (total elimination diet) where I was down to only 3 foods, so I can help you out, troubleshoot with you or at least offer some encouragement!

@Weagle: Love that stuff! Thankfully our existing stash of CD's worked, but we did have to use all cotton wipes with nothing but good old H2O! We can only use the super sensitive Cali Baby products fro everything else though.

Whenever DS got a diaper rash that was due to antibiotics or teething and we had to switch to sposies and used Dr. Smith's (found at most grocery stores and drug stores where I am) and it would clear up within a couple days. Butt Paste never worked for us but Dr. Smith's always did.

@allison: when A's got really bad we got her doc to write out a prescription for something kick ass that cleared her up in a day, it was fab! Now we use a zinc based cream and vaseline over the top and it works well.

@lolabee: I've been limiting dairy (I've eaten a burrito with cheese, but no milk or yogurt or anything). Keeping his bottom dry has seemed to help. I'm not sure how to go diaper-free bc he's either eating or sleeping & needs to be covered bc it's cold here (no central heat). I've been changing him constantly, blotting instead of wiping, blotting dry, & using earth mama bottom balm (with cloth dipes & wool covers)

@allison: @anbanan15: I am having the exact same problem. (I hope this isn't a thread jack!!) My doctor prescribed us Clotrimazole to be used twice daily - have been using since Wednesday but it hasn't cleared up. I use cloth diapers and cloth wipes with plain water. Have started air drying more often.

His rash is around is anus only, not really a ring - more like little dots that can bleed a bit (I feel terrible!!) @allison: are you going to try eliminating any foods? I am wondering if this is could be the cause? If you don't mind would you keep me updated on your situation? Hoping it might help me too. :)

Calmoseptine is what I have used with bleeding, almost blistery bottoms. I have always had it clear up the bulk of the issue within a day or less. Definitely try to do as much diaper free time as you can, laying him on a towel or a couple of prefolds with a prefold draped over his front will help contain messes but still let him get some air.

@zippylef: @anbanan15: pretty sure the rash I'd just from frequent poops. He's only red around his butthole. Our diapers are new-kissaluvs fitteds with wool covers. He did have some green poop a couple times that I think may have been due to dairy.

Earth Mama did nothing for us. It never worked. I always switch her into sposies and use the hardcore stuff when she gets bad diaper rash.

Did you get your diapers used? It could be detergent build-up, ammonia or yeast in the dipes.

We had good luck with Grandma El's. Nothing else seems to work for us. Also the first thing that comes to my mind with a persistent diaper rash is an allergy ring...is it just little spots or is there a bright red ring around the anus with possibly raised edges (you can google 'allergy ring' for pics)? That was always the issue with us and removing the trigger removed the rash...trigger could be food/formula (if breastfeeding a food your eating) or even the material your cloth diapers are made from. A lot of babies have trouble with synthetics against the bum. Just a thought.

Miss A had wicked nappy rash around the time she was teething and we did as much nudey time as possible and I switched to using cloth wipes (the store-bought wipes seem to aggravate her skin)

Aww poor baby. Triple paste works the best for us. Diaper free time would be good. I've also heard baking soda or powder (not sure which one) in the bath. Maybe have a thermos of warm water and a washcloth to clean area at each change. Make sure bum is completely dry before putting diaper on. Hope it clears up soon.

We're struggling with diaper rash. We use cloth diapers normally, and we'd been using Earth Mama Angel Baby bottom balm at every change. Which I like. But E poops probably 6 times a day, and no matter how often we change him, we can't seem to get this rash to clear up. There's little spots where he's kind of bleeding, even. We started using disposables and Boudreaux's, but the blood spots are still there 24 hours later.

I thought maybe his butt needed to air out, so we switched back to the bottom balm and cloth with wool covers and we're changing him as frequently as we can (he's 3 weeks old so he naps a lot).

I just don't know if I'm doing right or if there's something else that I should be doing. I don't want his little butt to bleed :(. I'd love some advice!
