which wipes are you using? It could be a reaction to the wipes. Try only using water and pat dry. When you're on the go you can get the disposable wash cloths (like the ones you get at the hospital) online. we slather aquaphor on her with every diaper change. Usually that helps with our DD.

I also know a lot of people who swear by triple paste.

@jmarionsmith: DD had diarrhea and really bad diaper rash for almost 2 weeks. We tried everything to get it to clear up. But, it wasn't bumpy like yeast, it was just red all over like your picture. The pediatrician had us give her probiotics and put her on the BRAT diet for a few days to settle her stomach. They also gave us a cream that has aquafor and some other drying agent in it. It wasn't covered by insurance, so it was $40, but it cleared EVERYTHING in just a little over a day. I can't remember the name of it (I'm at work), but maybe @Mrs. Jacks knows off the top of her head?

When my LO had a yeast diaper rash, we used Lotrimin (as in for athlete's foot). Every day for 2 weeks. Doc said it was like an antibiotic where you have to use for the entire prescriptive time even if skin clears to completely get rid of the yeast issue. It did wonders and we had been fighting a diaper rash for at least a month. During that time, I used nothing else so I would know nothing else was causing complications.

I hope you find something that works. Painful bums make me sad.

@jmarionsmith: if your pediatrician is on board with it, it is available on Amazon. It is nearly 30 bucks for a tiny tube but it is worth every penny

@T.H.O.U.: i have no idea? i think part of the reason it's better overnight is because it's not being irritated, either by us changing & wiping him or by him scratching at it. if it is a heat issue, would the only cure be going diaper-free?

@Mrsbells: i definitely will, thanks!

@jmarionsmith: please ask your pediatrician about TRIPLE PASTE AF, it is not the same as the regular triple paste diaper rash cream. My daughter had a bad rash that just would not go away despite us trying EVERYTHING. Until we tried triple paste af, it worked like magic and now she is rash free

@AprilFool: we go back and forth between the cloth wipes and disposables. but we have always used the target sensitive, i don't know that all of a sudden they would become an issue?

@Espion: that's a good point! i'll definitely bring that up to the doctor.

@T.H.O.U.: @Aimed: thank you both for those suggestions, i'm willing to try anything at this point! after i take him back to the doctor and make sure there's not a yeast/bacteria issue i will look into those products!

@aprk: it is awful! and so frustrating! especially because one day it will seem so much better but by bedtime is will be so vicious looking and i'll decide ok, we definitely are going back to the dr tomorrow. but by the a.m. it's gone!

Sorry you're going through this. I'm not sure if it will help but we use this cream and any diaper rashes literally disappear in a few hours. It's not available in stores here - i only know about it as it is the go to diaper cream in the UK and Ireland where I grew up. It might be worth a try!!
http://www.amazon.com/Sudocrem-253948-Antiseptic-Cream-125g/dp/B000ZLQJHC

ETA: It's so good I actually get my family to bring over tubs of it any time they visit and I fill my case with it any time I go home!

That is what my LO's diaper rashes would look like. I know you don't want to track down another million products, but this is what we use (at the recommendation of all my IL's and MIL who was a home health nurse).

Sorry you're going through this! We had a month stretch of a pretty nasty yeast rash. At first like you said, the Nystatin helped but then it came back. Then the dr. added hydrocortisone and that didn't do much. Finally she added an antibiotic cream with the Nystatin and that did the trick. It cleared in less than a week and has been gone for about a month now. I hope you find the right combo soon! :)

@mrsmate: I agree that is a lot of junk we put on him. But none of these things never had bothered him before with his temporary, less severe rashes. We would use something for 2 days, give a little break and try something else.

We used pocket diapers, but honestly the rash has only gotten consistently worse since switching to disposables so I'm pretty sure it's not the cloth diapers.

I'm so sorry, this sounds awful! Your poor LO.

One thing that jumped out at me was all the different remedies you tried in a two week period. My skin's not that sensitive, but if I tried a ton of different products in such a short period I don't think my skin would like it.

With DD we did cloth at home during the day and disposables when we were out, for naps and overnight. What kind of cloth diapers did you use? When we used cotton prefolds DD was much more prone to rashes bc she didn't really mind sitting in a wet diaper. When we started using pockets (FuzziBunz and BG, which have fleece lining) she did better.

When we saw a rash coming on, we would fan her bottom completely dry (we usually used one of her board books) before we diapered her again. If she was uncomfortable we used lanolin.

If I were you I'd try to go completely diaper free for 3-5 days. Then I think you'd know for sure if it's a diaper issue or a food issue. Good luck!

I seriously need help with figuring out what to do for my LO and his horrible diaper rash (if that's even what it is.) Warning: this will be long because we have been dealing with this for almost 2 months now.

First let me say LO has super sensitive skin. Initially, I thought that was our problem because we were cloth diapering and I chalked the frequent rash up to the cloth diapers just not keeping his tush dry enough. So we, sadly, switched to paper dipes, Target brand to be specific. Honestly, at first that seemed to help, for like a second. But a couple of days later I ended up calling the nurse line at our pediatrician's office because the skin became broken and was bleeding in some spots. She suggested using cloth wipes unteal it healed and Aquafor. The Aquafor did help with the broken skin spots but the rash continued to come and go with varying severity.

Two weeks after calling the nurse line we had our 9 month well visit and I mentioned that we had been dealing with a nasty diaper rash so she took a look and said it was yeast and prescribed Nystatin. She also suggested switching to Pampers because, in her experience, they tended to cause the least amount of reactions. So we switched diaper brands and used the Nystatin. Again, it seemed to work for a day or so but then we would have another horrible flare up.

For two more weeks we tried all the typical cures. Desitin, Buttpaste, Aquafor, Vaseline, eczema cream, using nothing at all, nakey time... After a particularly bad flare up I took him in to be seen. The doctor said he still had an underlying yeast issue but from the pictures (the rash would come and go so quickly that by the time I got him in the office his tush would look *almost* normal) that it looked like hives. Now, he had been scratching the area really intensely and I had noticed that almost always the rash would look horrible after a poop diaper. Because of all this the doctor thought it might be an allergy and suggested cutting out eggs since it was the last new major food allergen we had introduced, at around 7 months.

So, we continued with the Nystatin and cut out eggs. With these adjustments the flare ups did seem to appear less frequently and way less severely. Also, while his poop still definitely irritated his skin it wasn't nearly as angry looking.

That doctor appointment was two weeks ago and we are dealing with another nasty flare up. It was definitely not caused by poop this time and he hasn't had eggs since our doctor visit. But he has been scratching it like crazy, to the point where the skin is almost broken again.

We had followed the doctor's instructions to the tee with the Nystatin: 4 times a day for a week. We haven't used the Nystatin for a few days now so I'm worried that he has some super resistant yeast issue that keeps reoccurring. Is that even possible?

Or could it be a gluten allergy? Dairy? (He's formula fed, so I don't think it would be dairy since formula has cow's milk, but honestly, I have no idea.)

Here is what it looked like right before we laid him down this evening (just imagine the redness in the picture all over his tush, penis, pubic area, and the other inner thigh.) It doesn't look as bad when it's confined in just this area, but I didn't think posting a picture of all his bits would be appropriate. Just trust me, it's ugly. Super red, raised, really dry.

I realize this is probably way too much information and that I've rambled, I'm just so frustrated and desperate. Help!
