Up to 20 diaper changes a day because there's always a little smear of poop between the cheeks. The rash is so bad I do rinse with water (as does daycare) but you still have to wipe to get the poop off. I usually wonder why I go through the rinse step. I'm going to try the calmoseptine pp's suggested. The pediatrian thinks it's caused by post nasal drip irritating the bowels. I'm trying to get a GI referal. Instead on amazon there is something called Triple Paste AF. it is not related to the regular triple paste you buy in the store and isnt actually a diaper rash cream. Talk to her pediatrician about it. It cleared up her rash like magic. It wouldn't be yeast though. If that doesn't work, it's usually too yeast-y and we go with Lotrimin. We use it when we have to "pull out the big guns" - it is SUPER thick and creates a better barrier to new poo than any other we've tried, and its active ingredients battle the existing rash. When we suspect there might be a yeast element to the rash, we mix in some OTC anti-fungal cream for a day and see if that helps.</p> <p>Wet cotton cloth wipes (reusable cotton cloth diaper wipes that are super soft) are our go-to during blistering diaper rash. Yes, it's nasty to clean them out when you're wiping off poo with them, but they're so much softer than paper towels and they really get the butt cleaner with less trauma than disposable wipes. My kids have very sensitive skin and get diaper rash very fast including some open areas like you are describing. I got it in the incontinence section of Walgreens and now buy in bulk from Amazon. Anytime LO gets the tiniest bit red/pink desitin prevents it from getting any worse. We did that combo twice a day with plain desitin for the rest of the diaper changes. I use over the counter anti fungal (i forget what it's called but it's sold as foot cream). Also, cream makes it worse a lot of the time. We do no diapers, wash his butt in the tub with running water, and use baby powder. We have a baby powder that has an anti fungal in it I use when it's bad. Stop using Triple Paste because it has corn starch which feeds the yeast. Put a light layer of Lotrimin AF (yes, the athlete's foot cream) and then a layer of Aquaphor on top and it should clear up quickly. We just went through this with my son who has a double ear infection and is on antibiotics. It's super red and has little sores throughout, which are now so bad there are little spots of blood when I gently wipe. I feel so bad! I emailed our pediatrician for advice, but in the meantime has anyone dealt with that? </p> <p>So far we do open air time when we can- but it's pretty limited since she is very mobile and we have a toddler, so it's tough. Wipe with wet paper towels when we can, though I will be more diligent about it. Dry butt completely before applying diaper rash cream- I've tried Boudreaux's butt paste and triple paste and it seems to make no difference at all- it's continuing to get worse. Just now I just put a thick layer of aquaphor on instead to see if it will help heal the sores. </p> <p>Have no changed diaper or wipe brands at all. She recently got into solids and so her pooping has changed a lot. She now poops very frequently with very small amounts, so even though I'm changing her all the time it's very sticky. I also was on antibiotics last week. </p> <p>Any other advice? I just feel so bad for her. She yells when she poops but I'm sure that's also related to being a little backed up from starting solid foods anyway. </p>
