I'm not sure what your reasons for using cloth are, but if cost is one of them... then to be perfectly honest, you wouldn't be saving money doing cloth vs. disposables.

I tried the Honest Company which is $80 month for diaper ($20/week). It's actually less than that for the diapers because it's a monthly subscription service that is $35 for products (lotion, detergent, baby wash etc) and the rest is diapers/wipes. They are eco-friendly too.

I do cloth diaper, but I'm also a SAHM so I have the extra time for laundry. I do a lot of extra laundry anyway, like Mrsbells said, babies go through a lot of clothes in a week, as well as blankets, bibs, sheets, your clothes (how many times have I had to change from being spit up ALL over!!).

Just a few things to think about.

Oh, and welcome! You will love it here. Everyone is so great :)

I'm 21w, so I can't speak to any real experience but just finished doing similar research myself. I'd like to use cloth but don't have in-unit laundry, so a service would be the only/best option for me. I've tentatively decided against it for a few reasons. When I crunched the numbers, I didn't think the service would end up saving me any money (looking at per diaper costs for disposables vs. the local rates, which are similar to yours). I also would much prefer pockets or AIOs to prefolds, given the choice. Finally, pickup and drop off are once a week, and I wasn't too fond of having 80 dirty diapers bagged in our house by the time the pickup rolled around. Just some food for thought as you make your decision. Those rates are competitive with what I've found near me though! Welcome to the boards, btw :) Feel free to join us on the December board!

That sounds like a reasonable price. The only thing you might want to consider is that prefolds are more work than pocket diapers or all-in-ones, and your daycare might not want to deal with that. We're moving to an area that doesn't have a diaper service, so we just opted to purchase a stash of pocket diapers and wash them ourselves. I'm back at work full time now, but it's not a big deal. I just throw the diaper was in the laundry every other morning before I leave for work, and I fold in the evening in front of the TV after DD goes to bed.

Hi and welcome... we cloth diaper and honestly with a baby you have more laundry than usual anyway so the laundry isnot that bad, when we were cloth diapering full time we would do laundry twce a week. Now that she has started daycare she wears disposables during the day and then wears cloth nights nd weekends and we do laundry every 5 days.

This is my first real post, so before I get further I'll say Hello :) I've been lurking around since I found out I was pregnant but finally, at 20 weeks, I'm too full of questions not to participate :)

I'm very interested in cloth diapering but the laundry involved seems kind of daunting, especially since I'll need to return to work full time after 3 months. I looked into diaper services in my area and they actually seem reasonably priced. My questions are: 1) Has anyone ever used one and 2) Does this seem like a good deal for $21 a week? Any input is appreciated! :)

For $21 a week, the service provides:
-Pick Up Dirty Diapers
-Drop Off Clean Diapers
-Rental of Prefold Diapers and Wet Bag
-Cleaning of Prefold Diapers and Wet Bag
*Organic diapers are professionally laundered with a customized earth friendly detergent. NO harsh chemicals are used.

Typical number of diapers per week
Newborn: 60-90
Infant: 40-80
Toddler: 20-55
