DD's still EBF so mustard poopy diapers with nothing to dump, and they just go in the diaper genie. We take it out every other day. We hadma stinky problem maybe twice before, and we just wiped down the pail with a disenfecting wipe. We also put baking soda in it every other month.

We got rid of our pail around then and just used a regular trash can. We emptied it regularly.

@LindsayLou: vinegar is a good idea. I've done an open bowl of vinegar for other odor issues.

Baking soda usually does the trick for us. We've also used vinegar when it's gotten bad. Wet a towel with vinegar, hang it in the nursery to absorb odors, leave it there for a few hours.

We keep the diaper can in the hallway (more air circulation) which helps a LOT!

The Ubbi was and is life changing. The best part is you can use any bag. If it is closed there is zero stank. Brief 5 second stank when you open and of course when you take the big bag out to the garbage I was skeptical but I love it
Sometimes if I'm on the ball I wrap and tie off the poo diapers in a scented doggie bag. It reallllllly helps.
It's all metal too so no lingering smell. Easy to wipe down

We use a diaper genie and lazily keep poop diapers in there too and only take it out every 4 days or so... I mean, it stinks like crazy when you open it but the smell doesn't linger.

I'd clean the trash can out and maybe invest in a metal one. Plastic tends to hold on to the stink. I also recommend to everyone that they flush the poop instead of wrapping it up in the diaper. Poop doesn't belong in the landfill and it cuts down on the smell.

Oh! Your poopy wipes could be contributing to the stink too.

I use just a regular trash can and try to take diapers out ASAP, like you do---when we get the stinky smell, I take the whole trash can and wash it out with lysol or some kind of clorox solution in the bath tub.

@Mrs. Champagne: Might be. I might just try to take pee diapers straight to the big can too and get rid of the pail.
It's not really a pee/poop smell...but just a yucky diaper smell.

Baking soda. I put it in the bottom of our trash cans in the bathroom and it helps a lot.

Hmmmm...
We have an ubbi and put all diapers in it and have no stink. Maybe the actual can smells that you're putting the pee diapers in?

How do you get rid of the diaper stink? We still do all of T's diaper changes in his room. All poopy diapers go straight out into the garage to be tossed in the big garbage can. Pee diapers go into a small can in his room. The can is small so it gets changed quite frequently. Every other day if not more often.

It's been 2 years and his room just smells like a diaper funk. We got rid of the Diaper Genie long ago when we could only fit 5 diapers in it and stopped putting poopies in there anyway. His sheets, blanket, and changing pad cover get washed in hot water at least once a week. His skin is a little sensitive so I'm wary of air freshners.

Any ideas?
