@Tidybee: this is exactly what my doctor said as well. He said it could be anything from a tiny virus, just hormones changing, or even stress (which I so am lately thinking about labor!)

@paigeface: after dealing with major constipation to the point where daily colace was ineffective, I had a few bouts of very loose BMs every few days from weeks 33-36. Dd still came on her due date. My doc said it's just hormones adjusting and starting to prepare for te end of pregnancy.

@mdf106: Good to know! It has stopped completely so far and I have an appointment tomorrow with my doctor. I'm going to ask him the same thing. I think it was just a symptom as well :)

I had diarrhea on and off throughout my third trimester, and did not go into labor early (I went into labor at 39+3). My OB said it can be a pregnancy symptom, and ok-ed imodium when it was really problematic.

For what it's worth, I did have diarrhea prior to my preterm labor. However, I attribute it more to the 9 fried Oreos. (And FYI, so worth it.)

@paigeface: I was just coming to say the biggest concern with honey (raw or not) is botulism, and adult guts have no problem destroying that bacteria. Raw honey is better than pasteurized in some regards because in pasteurizing it loses so many of the great benefits of honey. Plus, so much honey these days is adulterated with other things, you almost don't know what you're eating!

Thank you! @mrsrccar

Update: Nurse said raw honey is not really an issue. The enzymes in the stomach should kill off anything that's in it. They are more concerned with babies under 1 eating it.

I had a short period of time where I had diarrhea around 33 weeks. I typically have to take Colace twice a day (at my doctors ok) to soften my stool and get things going so it came as a surprise. It only lasted two days and wasn't bad enough that I thought my fluid levels would be depleted or affected.

Hopefully it's nothing for you too!

Unpasteurized honey is different than unpasteurized dairy. Honey has a low moisture content and high acidity so the bacteria can't grow like it does in other products that are usually pasteurized.

And for the loose stool, I was constipated all the way until 34-35 weeks and then things started moving much easier. Hopefully labor is still a few weeks away!

I've heard diarrhea can allude to impending birth, but can't say from personal experience! Good luck!

good morning mamas!

sorry for the TMI but for the last few days (saturday, sunday and a little this morning) I've had a loose stool. Before that, I had been constipated for about a week. Did anyone else have this happen? I was only slightly concerned because I read that it can be a sign of preterm labor. I have had no other symptoms at all. I also read that you can have this happen even weeks before birth. I have my usual appointment on Thursday and was going to ask him then. Any insight ladies?

Mini update: I didn't realize that the honey I've been putting on my toast from a place like whole foods is unpasteurized and raw!!! I am in a semi-panic and placed a call into my doctor. could this be related? Has anyone eaten anything unpasteurized during pregnancy by accident?

Thank you!
