First, I'm so sorry for your lost. I lost my first pregnancy at 10 weeks and found out it was a partial molar pregnancy due to triploidy, which seems very similar to your story. I remember my period returned exactly 4 weeks after my D&C; however, it took more than 8 weeks for my HCG levels to drop to 0 (or below 5). My doctor advised waiting 3 months after the d&c to ttc again (not 3 months post 0 hcg levels which is also sometimes recommended).

@ocean81: @Cole: @Shantuck: Thank you, this is really, really helpful. I'm getting a couple more hcg draws before seeing a specialist in a week and a half to discuss whether I may need to be monitored for additional complications from the triploid pregnancy, but knowing this is normal has completely put my mind at ease in the meantime, as I know odds are that everything is fine.

@Kemma:  I hope that your cycle is back to normal soon. I'm pretty sure I didn't ovulate before my first period, as I had an hcg draw about a week and a half before and at that point it was still way too high to ovulate. I hope that yours comes soon - I definitely felt relieved to have mine back, kind of like a fresh start....

With both of my miscarriages, I got my period before the hcg zeroed out. I think it was under 100 but still lingering a bit.

@periwinklebee: no advice but my miscarriage completed on the 22nd of Feb and I'm not even sure that I've even ovulated yet. My doctor didn't test my hcg but I have contemplated picking up a cheapy test just to see if a line comes up.

It's amazing how fast the details fade but I'm almost certain I was getting a line after af, I do know for sure that it took waaay longer than I expected for it to get to zero. It's worth mentioning though that you can get pregnant again before your HCG gets to zero so long as it's reasonably low and continuing to decrease.

Obviously talk to your doctor, but my hcg was in the 20s I believe and a couple of days later, AF returned. When I called the nurse, they still wanted me to come in the following week for a blood test. I didn't POAS so I can't tell you if there was a line, but I'm assuming it's possible. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Mine did. I can't remember exactly because it was awhile ago, but I was getting weekly blood draws after my D&C and my first AF started a couple days after my hcg was around 50 or so (which was 35ish days post-D&C). I wasn't expecting AF so soon because I figured it wouldn't be back until I was at 0.

I had a reasonably heavy 5 day period earlier this week, my first post D&C. I assumed hcg must be pretty low to get AF - part of its job is to prevent AF - but when I took a cheapie test this morning to check that it was negative, I still got a line. On the faint side, but I didn't need to squint to see it.

I'm just curious if anyone else had a similar experience? I wouldn't think much of it but there's a possibility our pregnancy was partial molar. That raises a concern that hcg will start going back up due to abnormal growths, so it made me a little bit nervous whether it's normal or not to still have hcg in your system after a period.
