I gained about 60 pounds! I retained a ton of water and had giant feet and ankles. My face looked big and my arms were big.

I ate well and walked everywhere (always opting for stairs), but still gained almost 40lbs with DD. It all melted off quickly and I was back to pre-preg by 5 months, even 10 below pre-preg at about 8 months pp. This time around the OB is already warning me to not gain that much and I wish they didn't focus so much on the number, but on a healthy baby. Though I did say I wanted a VBAC and she's suggesting less gain to help my chances of a VBAC. Blah...

I gained 50 lbs! I feared I would never lose them! I lost twenty by the time he was 2 days old, twenty more over the course of the first three months. The last ten hung around until he was about 1 year old. I was ten pounds over my ideal weigh when I started TTC and I have been chopping away at those. I am 4 lbs away! So just wanted to say, gaining a ton of weight has no bearing on whether or not you will lose it quickly! I worried so much about my weight gain and for no reason!

I gained a lot for my body size. Now that I look back at bump pics I can see how bloated my arms, legs, hands looked. Thankfully a lot of the water weight came off quickly (within a few weeks) postpartum but I dreaded getting weighed at my appointments!

Yep. I gained about 80 lbs. EIGHTY. I hate even admitting that!!! I retained water like crazy. I started weight watchers at 6 weeks pp and I had already lost 40 lbs by that point.

I'm about 15 lbs BELOW pre-pregnancy weight now, and M is a week shy of 8 months :)

@Danizaur: I think in those threads about low weight gain we tend to forget that everyone has different body types and starting weight/heights that make a huge difference in terms of gain. Personally, my pre-pregnancy weight = your post pregnancy weight. See what I mean? So when you have a higher starting weight, you may not gain a lot. I think you look fantastic and not like you blew up at all.

I was up 60 when I delivered. I did Crossfit, i ate pretty healthy (better than most, at least!) and I'm within 2 lbs at 8 months pp. I retained water like whoa.

But if you know that it's because you're not putting the right things into your body, that's a different story, and that is something that you can change.

I gained over 70 pounds with my boys. Yes, I was carrying twins, but if you asked my doctors they would tell you that I gained way more than the recommended range (35-45). But you know what? I gave birth at 37 weeks to two healthy boys - 7lb 1oz and 6lb 9oz. My body was doing exactly what it needed to do to grow healthy babies. So yeah, I felt like a blimp at the end but I wouldn't go back and change it because the end result is so worth it, stretch marks and all.

And all the weight plus a few pounds has fallen off (I'm 11 mo pp), so I say don't stress about it! The important thing is making sure your baby is healthy!

Oh, yes, I was giant :( I gained nearly 50 pounds, but like a lot of others have said, much of it was lost very quickly since it was fluid. I would say that I have had to work really hard for that last 10 pounds, though. At 18 months pp I am like, 5 pounds from my goal and I have told myself I MUST reach my goal before getting pregnant again. It's a good motivator!

I blow up with every pregnancy! I gain so much water weight, I don't have ankles or knees! it's horrible. with DS I gained 40, and with DD I gained about 20, but I hadn't lost all the pregnancy weight from DS when I got pregnant again...so I ended both pregnancies at the exact same weight...which wasn't a good number :/

Yep, just to echo what others have said -- I exercised like crazy throughout my last pregnancy, ate well 2/3 of the time (the other 1/3 of the time I had 5 guys cheeseburgers with raw jalapenos), and still gained 60 pounds. Took a year to lose, with breastfeeding, but I did lose it! I am normally in decent shape, size 4-6, it just seems like I tend to gain loads of weight when pregnant. Now I am 17 weeks, and at my 16 week checkup I had gained 11 pounds from my first appointment.

Let's focus on the fact that we have healthy babies growing and if that's what our bodies do naturally, just go with it and be grateful.

I gained 55 lbs- my mom also gained a lot with both of her pregnancies. I think it's just genetics. Unfortunately, the weight didn't just fall off breastfeeding like I thought it would. I'm hoping to get pregnant again soon and really don't want an extra 55 lbs. while chasing around a toddler!

I'm not sure how much i've gained as my GP doesn't weigh me (LOVE her!!) but i suspect its a lot. And I lost about 25 lbs in the 3 months before conceiving, so when I started eating more every day to stave off morning sickness, I'm pretty sure I gained a lot of that back. Everyone keeps telling me I'm carrying all in the bump and that I haven't gained weight elsewhere (lies??) so I'm hopeful that it will come off easily enough...we'll see!

I gained like 70lbs, but I did retain a lot of water weight. I didn't eat super crappy and I did yoga the whole time. I'll be honest that almost everyone I know gained a ton with their first pregnancy.

I honestly think we just have some genetically gifted women around here. Lol. Don't get down on yourself, every pregnancy is different.

I am a healthy, athletic slim person who never eats crap food. I had ice cream once during my pregnancy. Otherwise I mostly ate kale- and I still gained an enormous amount of weight! My midwife said not to worry- you gain what you're designed to gain. And I will say with breast feeding on demand, i lost all my weight, and then some, very quickly.

@Danizaur:

Yep, similar story for me so far. 5'1" and 125 before conceiving, had gained 8lbs by my initial appointment at 10wks, and by 15wks was up a total of 13lbs. At this rate, I'm on track to gain a good 40-50 or more by term, especially considering it's supposed to accelerate near the end. Like @debbiei8: my morning sickness didn't keep me from eating like it does for the women who lose weight, rather I had to eat extra snacks every hour to stay on top of it. And I still have it at 18wks. I can't even tell where the weight is going, my clothes fit other than my belly/breasts, and I'm not sedentary or lazy about my food choices. Trying to trust my body!

@Mrs. Bee: So even though you gained way less it still took as long to lose...interesting!

@rachiecakes: I don't know why but I thought you were super tall...I think bc you look long and lean in your photos. That's amazing your mom had no marks! My belly button area looks crazy mangled :(

I'm 5'4 and was 125 lb when I got pregnant. I gained 57 pounds! And I ate really healthy and exercised until the end. The first 30 pounds came off pretty fast. LO is 4 months old on Friday and I have about 10 more pounds to lose. I feel like for some people pregnancy weight gain just is what it is. I felt like I had no control over it.
