I decided to go until he self weaned as it was in his best interest. Once we passed 6 months, I decided to keep going because LO seemed happy. At 8-8.5 months, he showed signs that breastmilk wasn't meeting his needs and it got harder to pump for him. So, we started weaning recently at 8-8.5 months. My first goal (pre birth) was 2 weeks. I called the LC from the hospital crying because the babies wouldn't latch. I saw her the next day, she got me set up and with a little dose of confidence the 3 of us and our village started our journey. My next goal was 6 weeks, then 3 months, then 6 months, then teeth - - - here I am with my 10 month olds and couldn't be happier. With the exception of a few bottles of formula in the hospital and along the way (as in less than 10 total) my babies are all made of All Mama's Milk. I am now thinking of what to do at the 1 year mark. I want to stop pumping at work. But I am thinking of letting them self wean on their own. When I was pregnant, I figured we would be done around 1 year. I didn't think I wanted to nurse a toddler, although I didn't really have any real reasons for that opinion. During my conference, lunch, and planning periods for about 15 mins each. Believe me it has not been easy and I have wanted to quit many times! I thought I would do six months max as I wasn't overly keen on the idea but wanted my LO to have all the benefits of breast milk. Well, at nearly 11 months, we are still going strong with five nursing sessions per day and no plan to cut back any time soon. Maybe once we hit a year I'll introduce the third meal and drop a session or two of nursing. Olive is 19 months old! The plan now is to wean after our international trip to visit Mr. Bee's parents this August. She'll be a month away from turning 2 then.</p> <p>Breastfeeding was just going so well, Olive loved it and needed it (esp as a preemie), she was extremely picky so it provided nutrition.... so there were many reasons to keep going!</p> <p>Did anyone else breastfeed longer than expected? </p>
