I didn't, but my mom went 18 months with me. She says that I would have continued but she thought I was getting too old for it.

@Mrs. Jacks: Good idea! I'll try to once DS actually sleeps well and I get on a real computer lol. Did you see the food survey a mama put together where families can respond if there was a reaction and use it as a tool to guide trials? I'll link that too :)

@Mrs. Jacks: We have not tried a probiotic yet as I wanted to consult out GI first. If we do try one I'm looking into GutPro (http://organic3.com/gutpro/). It's CF/GF/SF, corn free, pork free, etc. basically free from anything besides the strains which is nice for us.

@brownie: That's great! I'm so glad you made progress. DS has only gained 2 oz from 9 to 12 mo, but he still looks beefy lol (he was high on the charts before). I honestly feel that because of the limited diets breastmilk alone isn't enough nutritionally and I'm starting to accept that. It's a tough decision because ultimately you don't know if it's going to be better or worse. So glad it worked out for you though!

Just for fun, I'll share this: I have a friend who breastfed her LO until age 3. Actually, well into age 3. Her LO was sitting on the lap of another friend one day and asked "You got milk in there?" pointing at her breasts. He was hungry. She weaned him shortly after that. It's a funny story we still like to tell.

@anbanan15: We seem to have crossed a bridge with our little man and I believe the formula is one reason. I feel like the neocate allowed his gut flora to fix itself and then we have been able to start digesting food. He has gained 3 pounds in the last 2 months after not gaining (and losing some) for 6 months. So, even with the additives, I would try it. We are now back to exclusive breast and solids. My son isn't as bad as yours.

We're at 13 months and still going strong. LO has always been a comfort nurser and she has no interest in cow's milk, but she will drink water. At this point I'd prefer for her to self-wean, but we'll see. I don't see us going past 2 years, especially because I'm ready to TTC again.

We just turned 1 year and currently plan to breastfeed till 2 years old. This is because of food intolerances. He can have neocate formula but that is way too expensive. So we will go as long as he wants up to 2 years. After that he is cut off cause I want to try for the next little one.

@Mrs. Jacks: very true. I needed to hear that :) I would use any if it was our only option, but if I could choose (I know we have to oil our battles here) I would try splash, neocate jr, then elecare. We have GI, allergist and pedi appointments all within the next week so we will see what they say. Thanks again!!!

@anbanan15: If Lala's growth had been suffering, I would have used Elecare in a heartbeat. I feel like it's way better than Alimentum (in my personal taste test). Any of the elemental formulas are going to have weird things in them. The important thing is to bridge him until his gut is more mature :)

@Mrs. Jacks: oh thats good she had no corn issues! I'm sorry about the soy though. That is another toughy to be eliminating.

He is reacting to meat :( which is why I'm considering supplementing now with us both being vegan and being on such a limited diet. I just have to find a way to come to terms and accept formula (I'm not comfortable with the additives for LO's...like the aspartame in Elecare).

@anbanan15: We didn't have a corn issue, luckily. But she did react to the elemental formulas because of a teeny tiny soy component. Is your little one reacting to meat? Pork was my saving grace!

We are at 16 months and still nursing AM and PM. (The baby drinks rice milk and cow's milk also.) I hope to go as long as he wants to even though my doctors have recommended I stop because I am pregnant. I know that is old-fashioned advice so I just ignore it!

Once you're down to a few sessions a day, it really has no negative impact on lifestyle. I can't imagine going at a newborn-type pace for more than a year!

@Mrs. Jacks: did you end up supplementing? Did little jack's react to corn and if you supplemented what worked for you? I was thinking of trying to supplement with one Splash a day if we decide to supplement. Sorry for all the questions but your the only other person I know on here that has been down this road.

@miss-spunkin: I have looked into a homemade formula. Many mamma's have used it in similar cases as my son with much success. That being said DS has reacted to every milk alternative we have tried via my milk except sunflower seed milk, which I've been avoiding giving him directly as sort of a "last resort".

@anbanan15: Have you ever thought about making your own formula, if you're not comfortable giving your LO formula?
Here it is: http://www.cheeseslave.com/how-to-make-homemade-baby-formula/

Well LO is only 2 mos old, but I know Dr. Sears and the WHO recommend BF'ing til 24 months old, so I think I will shoot for that. But if it's getting tough, or LO wants to self-wean, then I want at least a year. We'll see how it goes! So far, we're going strong!

I am debating this as well! I think the deciding factor will be whether I get a less flexible job in a couple of months. I just can't see dealing with pumping once Baby Y is able to take cow's milk. He'll be a year by then, which was my goal. On the other hand, if I am a SAHM, I won't mind going a little longer, probably.

Omg, I go back and forth on this all the time... She is almost 10 months now and I'm still her primary food source since she doesn't like solids much at all. Quitting at 1 year sounds so awesome, but I just don't think it's realistic for us. I think my plan now is to just continue until she self-weans. I'll push sippies and straws aggressively starting at 15-18 months in hopes she will self-wean around 2 yo or sooner? Here's hoping!

Still nursing at 13 months. I was breastfed until 2 so I'm open to going that long but I'll let LO decide. I definitely already set limits about it (only at certain times, only in his room) so hopefully it will not become a nightmare if I have to lead the weaning process.

@anbanan15: First couple of weeks were tough but now the diet is much more manageable. LO has her allergy re-test in June and I'm anxious to see if her peanut allergy improves.

Just one thought, actual meat may be too much protein but if you haven't already, maybe try drinking just meat broth and see if your LO reacts to it via your breastmilk.

We are about 2 weeks past the one year mark. LO is such a boob monster, so it's been hard to stop. I never purposely intended to BF this long, but I just haven't been successful in getting him to stop. I do know that I would love to be done ASAP, though.

@Red: That's is awesome GAPS is working for you!! I'd love to hear more about your journey (post alert lol). I know that blog well :) I wish we were able to try GAPS but DS reacts to every meat we've tried via my milk. I think once he is done with the boob milk I'm going to try GAPS before we TTC a second. I'm also weaning to EP because of what you just pointed out...boob attachment. We've got that...bad.
