I have had it since the beginning of the second tri, but I only really feel it if I am lying on my back. It almost feels like I've broken my tailbone. I ALWAYS sleep with a snoogle and as long as I don't lay flat, I seem to be OK for now. Whenever it does act up, I switch positions or sometimes stick a pillow under my lower back. Warm baths always help too! I haven't tried anything else yet, but I'd really like to get into some yoga!

Yes! I had it early on and it continued throughout my pregnancy. I didn't understand why it started so early considering I didn't gain weight until my second trimester.

@rahlyrah: Ok, so I did a few things last night that helped as I haven't had any pain today (yet!). When I got home I did some stretching (not sure if you're familiar with yoga, but I found that the cat/cow poses helped the most). Before bed I sat on a heating pad for about 20-30 minutes, and I slept with a Snoogle (with the pillow between my legs). Today I feel much better! I think the stretching helped the most.

@.twist.: I bought a Snoogle a couple of weeks ago but hadn't slept with it yet. Last night I did and it was awesome! I slept with part of it between my legs and it was really comfortable :)

I've had this for over a week now, here was the post I wrote: http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/pelvichip-pain

Midwife said warm (not hot) bath, Tylenol and Tylenol PM if you have trouble sleeping through the night (I try not to do this too often), warm heat on the area (I have an Origins microwave hot pack I use), and switching between left and right sides when sleeping, with pillow between legs (I had only been on my left side after reading that numerous places). I hope it gets better for you! Oh, I also got a maternity belt that has helped relieve some of the pressure.

i've had tailbone pain for weeks now (im at 26 weeks 5 days today) and it's been progressively getting more frequent and worse. I had my check up today and my obgyn said it's normal and it's the way the baby is positioned and the baby's weight gain, putting pressure on the tailbone. if the pain is unbearable, she said to dip into a warm bath, which will often times make the baby move "up" and away from the area.

How did you sleep last night? (positioning?)

I find that if I don't have a pillow between my knees on my side my butt/tailbone pain is brutal the next day. I can usually correct it by sleeping in a better position that night.

I had really bad sacral pain when I was pregnant. I had to sit on a boppy toward the end. I went to the chiropractor for it, but it didn't really help me then. However, after I had the baby (and was still having really bad tailbone pain), the chiro worked wonders! I still have a little trouble with it (6 weeks pp), but it's getting much better with biweekly adjustments.

@lawbee11: I'm on my feet 10 hours a day at work, so I attributed the pain to being on my feet/walking so much as I started showing. I figured I was just out of balance or something, so the yoga was heavenly. I would think that a combination of stretching and the walking is probably not going to hurt!

i had this too! i noticed that it only happened when i was wearing a skirt/dress versus jeans so i'm pretty sure it was the way i was sitting. so maybe you're sitting differently today? i found leaning to one side helped or just continually switching positions.

Mine got REALLY bad, i.e., I couldn't walk. This happened around 23 weeks. I started going to a chiro and a physical therapist and I am pretty much pain free now at 30 weeks! They don't see me as often as they did at first (down to 1 visit a week/each) but they taught me a lot of stretches and exercises to do at home.

I am 20 weeks but have been experiencing tailbone pain for at least a month now. It didn't happen with my first baby but now we are pregnant with our 2nd, I thought it could be because I am carrying a toddler and that extra weight plus the 8 lbs i've put on so far, was putting strain on my back and tailbone. I still can't figure it out though...some days I have the pain, some days i don't. I figure if it isn't all the time, it must just be a positioning thing (i.e. i sat funny or got up funny)

@MrsRoo: OK, I am going to look into some prenatal yoga videos. I normally walk on the treadmill every other day (fast pace + incline) and I was planning to do that when I get home from work. Do you think it would help or make it worse to do that? Maybe I should do yoga/stretching instead?

@rahlyrah: I might try sitting on a heating pad tonight. No idea if it will help, but it can't hurt, right?!

I'm so happy you posted this! I have horrible tailbone pain, even if I only sit for a short period of time. I'm 24 weeks and noticed it around 20-21 weeks. I'd love to hear some management techniques.

I did, and it started right around 17-18 weeks for me. Prenatal yoga ( I found videos I liked on YouTube) helped a lot. If it was really really bad, I took a Tylenol. It stopped completely after a week or so, but has returned within the last week. I've stepped up my yoga in hopes it will help again! I'm 34 weeks now.

I haven't experienced tailbone pain while pregnant, but last summer I had extreme tailbone pain when sitting. Things that helped me were carefully changing positions, sitting with my legs apart, and sitting down slowly. I tried to get up and walk a few times a day to get some relief. It went away in a few days.

Yes, sort of! I had like major butt-cheek pains from very early on and I hadn't gained weight yet! It was like I ran a marathon or something! Later I got the shooting, pinched pains, which I were told were Sciatica. Maybe just Tylenol if it's really hurting?

Yep!! Off and on I get really bad pains; feels like I broke my tailbone some days! I started being more active, and that helped, but if you're already pretty active, just make sure you move *carefully.* I've noticed that if I try to keep jerking movements to a minimum, and keep my legs together when I'm getting out of bed or the car, it helps. Also...glad to know it's not just because I've gained 20+ pounds at 23 weeks :p

I know some of the other bees had suggestions when another thread about this popped up, I'm sure they'll chime in :D

I've had really bad tailbone pain all day today (today is the first day I've noticed it). Anytime I re-position myself in my desk chair it hurts! I sit most of the day, so I am sure that doesn't help. I know some women experience this because of weight gain, but I've only gained 5 or 6 lbs, so that doesn't seem like enough to make this big of a difference. Has anyone else experienced tailbone pain? Was there anything that helped with the pain? I'm 18w3d. Thanks!
