@anewme: I didn't realize contractions until my water broke. I was having contractions, some "big" ones, the whole time but it felt just as you described, stomach-hardening, but not even painful enough to consider it a mild cramp.
I was induced with cervidil because of my blood pressure, my water broke on it's own and that's when the crazy, seizure-like contractions came on.

My aunt was like that with her four. She went to her regular OB appointment and was dilated to 8cm and had no idea.

I was induced the first time so didn't really know what contractions felt like.. That's why the second time I didn't realize I was in active labor until the contractions started getting really close. They said I almost had my baby on the freeway haha. I would say if you start feeling cramping and it starts happenning regularly to call the ob.. Second one definitely can come faster.. I pushed three times and it was over!

I do know a lady who also never knows when she is in labor. When I was induced I didnt feel much from my contractions but maybe because my contractions werent that big. They would ask me whether I felt it or not and I would say nope

I didn't know I was in labor until my water broke. I thought I was just having Braxton hicks since we had been out all day and I wasn't drinking enough water.

I'm 34 weeks into my 2nd pregnancy and it still worries me that I won't know that I'm in actual true labor, which happened with my daughter. I was at my 38 week appointment when my OB told me that I was actually 4 cm dilated and having regular contractions. I freaked out because I didn't even realize it! All I felt was my belly hardening, but I assumed it was from her moving about and what I was feeling was her bum. She sent me into L&D straight away. Where I delivered a few hours later.

I always associated contractions with excruciating pain and I just had none whatsoever. Actually it wasn't until they popped my water that I felt how bad a contraction felt like. After that I asked for an epidural immediately.

I'm freaking out this time again because it scares me that I'm not going to recognize that I'm having contraction. They say the 2nd one usually comes faster too.

Did anyone else not experience labor pains?
