I love pink but I wanted to be able to reuse things in the future so if people asked, I told them I wanted gender neutral stuff. But like other people have pointed out, the gifts will end and you will be buying most of her clothing at a year (or earlier). If you are putting your kiddo in daycare, you can always send them to daycare in the clothes you don't like. That's what I do!

I just made sure that most of what I bought was not pink so that the pink stuff bought by others would be balanced out. I am more bothered by the cartoon pictures and cheesy sayings on baby clothes. What I buy is mostly solids and patterns like dots and stripes. There's no Minnie and Pooh and Tinkerbelle and very little animals etc.

I'm so not a pink person and buy a lot of gender neutral stuff for DD. But the pink has started to grow on me and I sometimes put her in pink just so people know she's a girl!

Our girls nurseries were/are very gender neutral, little hints of girl but not with pink. We registered for all gender neutral stuff and when we bought things we bought it in the neutral version even if there was a "girl" version available. People did end up buying girly things but since the bulk of their larger items were gender neutral it wasn't a big deal.

Everything we bought for her was non-pink, but a lot if gifted things were pink. Her nursery is grey and purple, and all if her gear is gender neutral. Even now, when she wears pink it tends to be with grey or another non-pink colour.

TBH, lots of people like girly pink things, so you're probably going to be gifted that. But it doesn't mean your little girl has to be in all pink all the time!

I had a lot of luck just communicating with my family, and they all really understood. I'm also really against the girly lame versions of toys, so my daughter has none of those. I am, however, a big fan of pink aesthetically, so the both of us end up wearing it sometimes. At this point (3 years) she doesn't care about her clothing - when she does, she can choose her colors.

@Cherrybee: same same! I was incredibly anti-pink.....I bought dark wood furniture and wanted green for everything because I love green and wanted a forest theme....plus if we have a boy next I can reuse everything.

In the beginning I always said I would put LO in all black all the time and she could be a little hipster baby. Well. Fast forward to almost 20 months and my heart melts when she wears a girly pink or purple outfit. Haha! I don't put her in a lot of it (she actually wears a lot of grey) but I am not as adverse to it anymore!

I'm also expecting my first, a girl, in January. I registered VERY carefully--with very little pink. I did it because I know I will definitely get lots of very pink things from family members, but I still wanted to show that my preference is toward the more neutral. Good luck!!

I don't mind pink, but I like lots of other colors (and neutrals) too! My plan was to register for neutral colored items only, which will hopefully cut down on receiving an explosion of pink stuff. I'll let you know if it worked at all after my shower in a couple weeks  !

I have two girls and here is a picture of their shared room. I would totally put a boy in this room too but they do have "girlier" accent pieces like small flowers on the older ones sheets but she had a green quilt. I think you can make the room however you want it :)

We kept the nursery very gender neutral and didn't share the gender before our baby shower. Our nursery was teal, gray and cream with pops of color as accents.

For the clothes I buy, I peruse both the girls and boys sections every time. My DD loves Thomas the Train, but the only shirt I found was dark gray in the boys section at Old Navy. So I've become good at looking beyond the pink and searching out pieces that work for either gender or are girly, but without a ton of pink. She has some pink in her wardrobe, but often as an accent color or an occasional outfit.

For clothes we got as gifts, I did a couple things. If the gift was a one off from a friend/co-worker/family member, she would wear it at least once and then if I hated it, it would get sent off to the consignment shop so I could use the credit for items that better fit my style. I made it clear to family members that DD can wear all the colors of the rainbow, not just pink. But for my MIL, I had to change my plans because…. she bought ALL the clothes she could find before and immediately after DD was born. Often from consignment (which I don't mind, but not huge bags of them). Most were very girly and pink and not my thing. So I picked through them, found the items I wanted and sold the rest. I stopped feeling guilty because there was no way my DD could wear everything she bought, and she was the one who paid no attention to my nursery colors, or request for less pink.

We bought everything else gender neutral, especially as we planned to reuse the big items and our cloth diapers for future kids.

I can't wait for my DD's preferences to come out - if she loves pink girly stuff, I'll embrace it because SHE wants it. But until then, she will continue to look like a boy somedays!

DD's nursery is yellow and aqua with some pink accents (baskets and hamper). I was not one to dress her in all pink, again usually only accents. Now she is at an age where she is showing preferences and low and behold she actually likes pink!

Dd's nUrsery is mostly grey w yellow, green and a few pink things (one of the changing table covers in rotation and her name in pink blocks which were gifted). She was gifted a few pink receiving blankets and some clothes, but nothing is overly pink! It's def possible to avoid pink if you want to!

Eta we have no pink gear-- I was careful that the expensive stuff be totally neutral, like black car seat, stroller, ergo

My daughter hardly wore any pink, her nursery was not pink. I made it pretty clear that baby pink and hot pink were not my thing, so most family respected that. Some still gave the frilly princess-type outfits and I just didn't put LO in them. SHe wore a lot of blue because of her eyes, and I put a bow in her hair so people knew she was a girl ;)

Pink grew on me, too. I really despised pink when I was younger and never wore it. But when I knew I was having a girl, it just crept up on me  Even if I didn't go out and buy it myself, my mom, aunt, mil, friends would buy her pink. I'm honestly over it now (if I got to choose, it'll be a different color), but if she has it, she wears it and it's cute.

Eta: I like pink on boys! I think it's adorable!

All our gear and most of our toys for our daughter are gender neutral, so they can be used again. I went pink and girly with the nursery because I wanted to, but a lot of my friends with girls have totally neutral nurseries. I am a sucker for the girly girl clothes, but have found tons of things that aren't pink and girly for her. Congrats, have fun! The pink might grow on you. I was anti-pink before I found out she was a girl, too! lol.

DD's nursery is pale yellow with a mostly-green rug and green rocker/recliner. Furniture is all natural (i.e. just varnished, not stained or painted) wood. Our gear is neutral, too. Granted, we didn't find out the sex until she was born, so that part was easy, but if still have decorated the same way.

We did get a lot of pink clothes after she was born, and it was fine. I usually pair a pink item with a different color (grey, navy) to tone down the girlyness a bit. ;)

Also wanted to add that in spite of DH's best efforts to turn or 28 month old into a tomboy, she likes to drink her pay tea with her pinkie out and is the daintiest toddler I've ever met.

Tutus make her light up and she asks for pink and purple shoes all the time. Sometimes no matter what you do, they end up in pinksville anyway. I fully anticipate that by the time she is 5 it will be a never-ending shower of glitter and princesses.

I felt like this at first but then realized that my issue wasn't with pink (I actually love pink) but with things that say "Little princess" or whatever. We painted our nursery a neutral color (blue/grey) and kept the decor pretty neutral as well. We get alot of pink stuff from relatives but I'm pretty ruthless about exchanging the stuff I don't like.

Our nursery is gray and coral with pops of gold. My DD doesn't have very many pink clothes, but I have found that a little pink can be very cute. I like trendier clothes and they tend to not have too many frills so any pink involved is seriously toned down. Honestly, I don't really think it matters because as she gets older you will buy most of her stuff!

Since we didn't find out the gender of our kids ahead of time, we painted the nursery grey (much to my mother's horror) and did a rock and roll theme- lots of framed, brightly colored rock and roll art. Clothes, however, are hard to find.

We had a lavender nursery and gray gear. We received lots of pink outfits at my baby shower.

My LO loves pink! :)

We started out with no pink, but then we had a hard time buying things that were not pick in newborn and up to like 6 months. My MIL went crazy with pink and also tried to get us other colors. In the end my daughter loves pink and purple so we cannot get rid of any pink in the house.

Ya know I used to feel this way but something happened to me when I found out we were having a girl and I actually got excited about a little pink. So not me typically. That said I will not be living in the land of pink for as long as we can help it. I think at a certain age though you might have to give in to it if that's who she wants to be. For now though you can go very neutral and it will be lovely.
