Yes, I have been getting lots of tension headaches. The pregnancy has flared up my TMJ issues.

Mine were hormonal - I know all of my headache triggers, and I'd made sure to avoid them all. Before I got pregnant the first time, I was still having them from time to time even with careful attention to triggers. Then I got pregnant, and they just vanished. Until 17 weeks, and then I had them for a few weeks, and then they left again.

Also, check your protein intake and make sure you're getting 70g a day or more. I used to have daily headaches, and a lack of protein was the reason. Getting enough reduced them by about 80%. Also cutting down on salt and getting enough iron in my diet. Oh, and watch your electrolytes - in the summer when I exercise, I have to make sure to up my salt intake a bit with sports drinks. Otherwise I get a bad headache with nausea.

I get them occasionally, definitely worse than pre-preg headaches. Tylenol + caffeine + hydration but even that usually just barely takes the edge off. Sucks!!

You have all my sympathies! I had bad headaches around the same time. Sometimes they would last for a few days. I never really could kick them--even with Tylenol and some caffeine. Eventually I just stopped getting them--definitely before 20 weeks.

i got frequent headaches and migraines during pregnancy, but i was also a migraine sufferer pre-preg just not as frequent. my ob also said at least 100oz of water everyday which i followed but didn't help much. he also highly suggested taking the tylenol saying that stressing about the pain wasn't good either. naps in a dimly lit room helped, but that was bout it for me. sorry that you are dealing with it.

I got them and I sympathize with you! I had to leave work a few times because it was so bad.
Lots of water (probably more than you think you need), Tylenol and shutting your eyes when you can. That's all I did.
Some people swear by a Coke! But I never tried it.

Thanks for the responses! More water and tylenol it is. I couldn't figure out if sugar was triggering it or lack of sleep or ... ?? Just a general side effect I guess!

Tons. There is literally no good reason not to tale tylenol, so don't just sit around suffering. With my first, my frequent headaches mostly went away. Not with my second.

@wrkbrk: I would try really drinking a lot, like at least 80, and see if that helps. For me, the way I thought/knew it was a migraine was because the throbbing was literally so bad I would have to stop what I was doing and sit down. I also had some sensitivity to noise.

@wrkbrk: I got them all the time. I would do a dual ice pack both over my eyes and one at the base of my neck while laying down. Dr also recommended a snack with sugar, fat, and protein all in one so I had ice cream or small smoothies a lot and it helped.

I have had them both pregnancies, and they are miserable! I drank a lot of water, took tylenol regularly, and had caffiene, but ulltimately the only thing that helped was time. I get them right around the 13 week mark, and they are gone before 20 weeks. My doctors said they are from increased blood flow.

I started with the headaches at 4 weeks! It was one of my first symptoms. Progesterone can cause headaches, so first trimester can be rough! I have been getting them again off and on since 25 weeks. Good luck!

Agree with @hilsy85 - I was getting terrible tension headaches, and significantly upping my water intake (to way more than I thought I needed, probably 100oz or so) was the only thing that helped. Tylenol would take the edge off but ultimately was kind of worthless. Hope you feel better!

@wrkbrk: not only did it really help my headaches and back pain, but I found it soooo relaxing. You just lay there in a dim room and let the needles do their thing. I kind of want to do it again but it wouldn't be nearly as relaxing now when I'd also have to sort out babysitting.

I did with my first pregnancy and they were awful. I think mine were hormonal, since I also got them when I went off the pill. I also was prone to sinus and stress headaches anyway.

What worked for me was acupuncture. Total life changer- two years later I still get way fewer headaches! But I think they also do tend to ease up in the second trimester anyway.

In the meantime, cold compress on the back of my neck or forehead and laying in a dark room helped a lot. I even occasionally wore my sunglasses at work because the lights were too bright.

I had a lot of headaches around that time. It's apparently very normal, but not fun! I think it was just a combination of sinuses and hormones. Thankfully they did get better, though I'm not 100% sure when.

I was getting horrible migraines. How much water are you drinking? I was drinking around 60z and thought that was enough, but it was only when I upped it to like 110-120oz that it helped. Also, some caffeine and tylenol when it was really bad .

Happy Sunday!

Just checking in to see if anyone else is having bad pregnancy headaches. I get them now about twice a week, only on my right side, and they will last about 24 hours. Haven't taken any tylenol yet, but I might .... Doctor said its probably sinuses and isn't worried but he did tell me to let him know if they persist ...

Did anyone else experience this? Any clue what triggers the headaches? I am drinking plenty of water!!

Oh, and I am 13 + 3.

Thanks!
