Yes. My son was conceived in 1 round of IVF (after a year of trying naturally and two losses). I was 32 during treatment and 33 when he was born (2 days after my bday).

We started IVF for our 2nd 2 days after my 35th bday. I did two rounds and my response was abysmal - nothing like the first time. Barely saw anything growing a week into stims, only retrieved max 6 eggs, no PGD normals either time.
I knew it would be harder this time around but didn't realize just how much my body would change from 32-35.

First baby took eight cycles of trying including one miscarriage and I suspect one chemical pregnancy. I was almost 37 when he was born.

Second baby... well, it's been 14 cycles including one miscarriage since I got my IUD pulled. This cycle we tried IUI so we'll see if it works. Now I am almost 40 so I assume the issue is just age. All of our fertility test results came back normal which makes sense since I have managed to get pregnant three times.

Second time was both harder and easier in a way. I had one miscarriage before LO1 and the whole thing took 6 months. I had 2 losses before LO2 and the whole thing took 8 months, but ironically, I ended up pregnant with him while we were technically taking a break (to recover emotionally from the losses). So LO2 took longer but was actually a surprise.

@peachykeen: The only thing my doctors and I have been able to come up with for why lo2 took so long was my being sick with a pretty terrible infection and then losing about 20 lbs. It was pretty much lost at once and then just maintained (and still within a healthy weight range for my height, on the lower end but not bad.) The month before I got a positive my OB did some testing and everything was normal. Here's hoping that stuff is behind me and if we decide to go for it, it won't be stressful. The good thing is that if we end up stopping now I would still be happy because they have each other. Congrats on your new baby!

Thanks for all the stories ladies. I always hear the opposite- that people get pregnant accidentally after having a really hard time with their first, but not so much the second or subsequent.

@mrskansas: Sorry you are having such a difficult time with #2. I didn't share your journey but I am still in my 20s so I really did not think it would take quite that long either.

@bhbee: That's nice that you didn't have to worry about it the third time! Congrats!

We conceived #1 the month before we planned to TTC (had to have conceived from O-3!) then had a lot more trouble conceiving #2 (6 cycles) and I got very frustrated. Looking back, I think it had a lot to do with my body being worn down from illness and stress. DD1 gave me pretty severe hand-foot-mouth disease over the summer and I think it affected my body more than I thought. We had a miscarriage in October and a possible chemical in November but successfully got pregnant again in November (I'm currently 15 weeks). I really think once my body rebounded from all the illness and we got our timing right, our fertility was probably not the problem after all.

So... I guess effectively it was more challenging to conceive #2 but I probably needn't have worried about it

I got pregnant in the first month of trying with DD, and in the first month of trying in my second pregnancy (which ended in a miscarriage). After that, it took 7 cycles to get pregnant, 5 of which were perfectly timed. I'm not sure if the m/c threw everything off or it was just unfortunate luck

With DS I was pregnant two months after stopping the pill. We have not used any form of birth control for about a year now and nothing. Could be age as last time I was 30 and now I'm coming up on 35.

My daughter took one month & I had a normal and healthy pregnancy.
When we started trying for #2 I had an ectopic, miscarriage and chemical in the span of 5 months. We're currently on a break to decide where to go from here. I don't think age is a factor because I'm 24.

yes, i'm pretty sure due to age. I was 33/34 when we tried for DD. Got pregnant 3 times in 7 months!

I was 36 trying for the next one and it took 6 months and initial fertility testing to get a BFP. I'm 11 weeks, so we'll see.

They did my AMH it did come back on the lower side, no other issues though so it was suggested it was due to aging.

I had two early losses before each of my first two, and the second overall took more cycles than the first. But the third (while still early but looks ok so far) happened first try, which is kind of a cosmic joke because it was the one we were ok if it didn't happen. My oldest just turned 5 and I'm AMA now so you never know!

Yes. It didn't a super long time, but I had more losses. My first pregnancy took 3 cycles to get pregnant, but ended in miscarriage. I got pregnant the following cycle with my daughter. After my cycle returned and we started ttc again, I got pregnant immeadiately, but miscarried early again. Over the next 4 months, I had two more early losses, and then got pregnant again and am currently cautiously optimistic at 11 weeks. I don't think it was age related, as I'm only 28. I think it was a combination of poor luck, low progesterone, and being tired and busy chasing my toddler. So yes, it took us longer, and was more difficult.

I had a Mirena before LO. I got my BFP on the 3rd cycle post-Mirena, our 2nd cycle actively TTC. We are currently TTC #2 and this is cycle #7. Interested to see what others say. My OB did remind me I am 4 years older! :bummed:

Just curious.

LO1 was 1 month, no issues.

LO2 took over a year of "TTC" but only about six (or so) months of what I would say were pretty much perfectly timed cycles.

We don't know if we will try for a 3rd but I would really love to time a Spring/Summer baby if we do (to avoid a newborn during cold/flu season with two preschoolers.) But I have no idea if that's even feasible!
